Well, got the outside of the block clean, and mostly rust free. Remaining rust fixed with a rust converter. Getting ready to paint it. Gonna start test fitting the pistons, and checking clearances all around for my new stuff. Trying to get a set of engine cleaning brushes, so I can make it spotless inside. Nobody locally carries them, I know because I called everyone. Guess I'm gonna have to get those off ebay too.

Yipee! I ordered the block cleaning brushes this morning. Woo hoo! Shimmed the oil pump the other day, and began the tedious cleaning of the peripheral parts with purple power, and some brushes. Going very slowly. Started to paint the parts that need it. Gonna paint the whole thing real nice before it's done. Decided on candy blue for the brackets, and valve covers. The pic is where I got the idea from, but I can't remember who posted it, to give him props. Gonna paint the W58 I'm putting in, too.

That last pic is yummy :)

I know, I got a few more from the post too, It inspired me. I'm stalled at the moment, as I'm awaiting my block cleaning brushes, but after they get here, I'll be posting pics of the assembly process, and my paint job.

Well, looks like I won't be using the W58 after all, I had to use the slave cylinder on my stepson's car today, and I don't have any money to get a new one. Oh well, A340 for a while longer.:puke:

The other day I had an epiphany, gun metal gray! I was about to pickup more gloss black paint for my block, when I saw a can of gun metal gray. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I grabbed it and ran. Painted the block today. The pic don't do it justice.

Major update! Crank in, pistons in, shimmed oil pump in ARP undercut studs in, oil sending unit, and oil filter housing in. And I got a pretty pic! BTW, the red on top of the deck is NOT rust, it's a trick of the light.

Couldn't post much for a while, too busy working on the engine. Well, it's finished. Ran out of money, and time, so I couldn't make it real pretty like I wanted. Got the engine looking pretty good, but I couldn't get the engine bay cleaned. Got some pics. Engine's in the car, gonna finish up tomorrow.

It's running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Test drove it today. First time out of the driveway for seven months. Running beautifully, though I haven't boosted yet. Gonna wait til I retorque the head this Saturday. It's burning a little oil, due to a bad valve guide seal. I had another set, but for the life of me I can't find it. Knew it was gonna leak, as soon as I put it on. I think it was defective, as I had no trouble with the other 23 seals. If I can get another set by Sat. I will replace it at the same time as I do the retorque.

Did the retorque, and replaced the defective valve guide seal. All is well. Boosting 7 psi on my aftermarket gauge. No leaks, one issue, a stumble a idle. I deduced it was a bad coil, or spark plug wire, so I replace my whole coil pack with another one I had in the garage, and VOILA, stumble gone. Idles perfectly. Next project, stop my targa leak. The inside of my car is getting soaked.

freekin awsome man, good to see you got everything squared away, how bout some new pics or a vid or 2?

Ask, and you shall receive. Sorry about the audio, it sucks. And I really need to do a valve adjustment, shoulda done it while the engine was out of the car, but I was impatient to get the car on the road. The whining is power steering fluid, instead of dexron, that was just dumb.

Update: Whining is not PS pump, but my timing belt tensioner. Just verified by using my blue point stethoscope. Gonna have to get a new one, the others I had were all in bad shape.

Hey, thanks for the update man, I haven't checked back in. I get distracted easy. Looks like it came out really good. I like gunmetal but in the bay over time it will look like dried oil or sludge. What did the build total you all in all?

About $550.00 all tolled, roughly. That's for all the parts, sealants, paint lubes, and oils, as well as the sandpaper, and related items. As far as the gunmetal, it has a nice sheen to it , so I think I'll be able to tell the difference if something has gotten on the surface.
