Hello ladies and gents, been a while...almost got all the parts needed to finish this bad boy up

But, like usual, i gots a quesion :D

what the hell is this thing, it's under the intake manifold. and there's two of them, one of the black plastic pieces broke on one of them, and i wanna replace it.

Also, does anyone know the item number for the stock AFM? my old one is all oily and gross, just want to replace it.. thanks!!!

OH MY GOD!

The afm new is like $800?!?!? wow...what the hell.

oooookay then, recommended ways to clean an afm??? lol

i've read brake parts cleaner is a no-no..any safe way ti actually clean this thing?

Alrighty guys, moving along pretty good. just got a few more things to tidy up before the head gasket install.

When the tsrm calls for seal packing, towards the front of the block, the two spots. What is it that I actually put there? As in what do I buy?


Also, I have bought myself some toyota red coolant, being that, that is the most suggested coolant to use. But my question is, I want to clean everything out, all the pipes, the radiator etc. But is there a certain type of radiator cleaner additive I should buy over others? Does Toyota have one?

Edit: Did a little more research, it seams that the seal packing is the Black FIPG by toyota if i'm not mistaken?

I believe you can pick up a MAF/AFM cleaner at your local parts store. I had to clean the MAF on my SS after installing a VERY oily K&N filter once.

We generally use something called "Hondabond". IJ or Jdub have posted what the actual proper name for the stuff is. It's good stuff...

As for flushing your radiator, removing the upper radiator hose from the radiator and flushing it out with a hose is *one* method that can be used. Just keep in mind that this will make a hell of a mess, and make sure you keep the water running through long enough that you no longer see any signs of the old coolant. If a previous owner failed to run distilled water, you're likely to see quite a bit of rust/scale come through.

I had done some google researching, google for the win, and I found on other car forums that brake cleaner was actually ok to use considering it evaporates, quickly at that.

Ended up getting the black fipg from Toyota, but thank you for the suggestion though!



I should have stated this a little differently. I actually bought me a new Koyo rad, so it isn't that, that I am worried about (although it will still be rinsed out, who knows if shipping particles got in it or something haha). It's more or less the block I want to clean out, the coolant hoses etc.

I am assuming just do a couple refill/flushes with the coolant/distilled water?? (obviously do complete heat cycles to actually move the coolant around)

Never seen cleaning the afm turn out good...this is not a GM Maf. Very different animal. I would not clean it unless its already not working. Because if it is working it most likely will not after.

Disclaimer on my part, I've never needed to clean a Supra AFM, so you may want to do more digging on the subject before attempting any repairs.

As for flushing the radiator, if you go about it with the method I suggested, you leave the car running. Thermostat will open as the engine warms up, water pump will force water/coolant from the block out. Hose in the upper radiator hose (or radiator neck, either way) will refill the radiator with fresh water. Once all the gunk stops coming out of the engine, shut it down.

Keep in mind your fan though. ;)

Like I said, this is but one method, I'm sure there is a better one out there. May have already been posted, so a little searching might be in order. :)
