I'd like to see some numbers... Among others I was considering either going big (GT42DBB, but I can't even find one), or SP61GT or BOSS 550 from suprasport, but I can't really decide. A full ball bearing setup for 1500 +300 with a 62-1 would be a great deal. But what are some more details on the assembly of the Turbo itself (what's it made of)?

This is what I found at, http://www.suprasport.com/product.asp?itemid=315&itemadd=64557

I added everything up in the cart and came up with the following & it is an every day price! One other note is that it comes as a big shaft for added durability.

SS BOSS Turbo Stage 3 Build Your Own
Compressor Housing Finish: Non-Polished
Compressor Options: TO4E 60-1 (Big Shaft only) approx. 400 HP + - $125.00
Center Housing & Rotating Assy.: 360deg Dynamic Thrust Bearing
Actuator: Single Port (standard)
Install Kit: No Thanks
SS Hi-Flow Turbo Elbow: Elbow & Stainless Gasket - $169.95
$1,489.95

What ya think?

Here is what I came up with if you want to come closer to comparing it to our kit: $1739.90 with the install kit. Ours includes the oil lines and complete downpipe, not just the elbow.

A big difference is the housing made from stainless steel and the center section is coolant and oil not just oil. This will help increase the life of the turbo. All the lines are made from braided stainless steel as well, even the oil return.

I'm not saying you're turbo is not good, or that our's is better. I honestly don't know how this thing is going to perform. And to be honest with you, if I knew about your turbo before I bought my upgraded one 3 years ago, I probably would have bought yours. I am not claiming to have re-invented the wheel or anything, just offering poeple another option. This thread was started as a "group buy gauging interest" , not a "who else offers turbos" post. So to get back on track, our kit comes with stainless braided lines for feed and return also, and if you want to make your turbo last longer, buy a turbo timer and run synthetic oil. The water cooling does help with the longevity of the unit if you are running conventional oil because if you run conventional oil and shut it down without giving the turbo a chance to cool off, the oil will burn causing carbon to build up and quickly chew up your bearings and seals. Synthetic oil is much more heat resistant and will not burn on the shaft and bearings. If you treat your turbo right, it will treat you right.

The only reason for my reply is, if you look around there are other turbo's at $1500 that are a direct bolt on that don't need a group buy. I was not saying any thing good or bad about your turbo, just another choice. Where you not looking for members opinions?

The one thing I see that looks a little dismal is the tight AR on the exhaust side.
you said .55, right? IIRC the stock CT is closer to .63, I would see that tight AR as a big restriction for top end flow. although it should provide quick spool, provided it doesn't surge/choke the compressor.

This same exhaust housing has made 650 whp on a DSM. The smallish A/R could start to choke it up a bit around 500 whp, but it should be interesting to dyno it in a few weeks. I should have my car running again this week, so it will be off to the dyno to compare my upgraded CT 60-1 to the complete 62-1.

No this is not a ball bearing turbo. We can get you a ball bearing GT30 or GT35 if you want, but it will be $300 extra. The exhaust housing on the 62-1 is designed for quick spool, so you really wont need a ball bearing center section in our opinion, but we can get you one if you want. Thanks for the interest. --Jim

A ball bearing turbo would sound better......it would have that "whine" to it hehehehe :biglaugh:

Sorry guys, internet was down for a couple days. My upgraded CT is starting to blow smoke (again....second rebuild), so hopefully there is enough left in it for the base line pulls. I would really like to wait until I get bigger injectors before the dyno pulls to fully show the potential of both turbos, but I will do it now if you guys want comparos at lower boost levels (I will probably start running out of fuel at around 16-17psi on the 62-1). The 62-1 really starts waking up at 18+ psi. Sorry again about delays --Jim
