Alright, so I've owned my Supra for a while now..and I cannot get over 10mpg...city that is...even trying to drive it easy, it is staying at a constant 9.7 to 9.8. I get happy when i see a double digit number appear. I have replaced gaskets, filters, oil, system flushes, new (stock) turbo...am i doing something terribly wrong or do these mean and beasty son's a biotches really get this bad of gas mileage? Also, a 3 hour road trip on the interstate...pretty much a constant 75mph...and the best i could get was 12.5mpg. Gimme some feedback, let me know what kind of numbers you are getting. Thanks. :)

nomal gets 15-18mpg. I think im getting about 17 ave. some people claim to get in the 20's with a turbo, but thats pushing it. maybe strickly highway driving. There has to be something wrong.
check codes. it would have to be something pretty wrong for that big of a drop. is it running ok, or does it do strange things, may help diagnose problem.
good luck.

Okie Dokie, first off Suprastic....I wouldn't be driving it and putting obscene amounts of money into it if i didn't want to drive it. I think it's become fairly clear that I LOVE MY SUPRA. Always will. It's one bad mo'fo (at least I think;)). I think I need a bottle of baby powder, please! I can't believe this guy is referring that I buy a Civic... :nono: That's just plain wrong.

tomjan87:

It runs great. I'm boosting about 13lbs right now. .57 Trim CT, ported turbo elbow, 3", Y-cutout, 3" DP, supporting electronics...but we all know that Supra's have a lot of top end...so...Yeah! :) But anyways, Back on topic, everything is great. It is just now starting to get kinda chilly here in Indiana and since it started getting really cold, its been in the 9's range of mpg...but when it was warmer...it was around 13-14. I suppose weather has a lot to do with my ranting...but hey, I'm happy with my car. ;)

You know, it is hard to measure what people get for city driving then compare it to what someone else would get in the their city. Cities vary so much more than highways.

My post on my gas mileage is in this thread if you care to see it along with what many others get:
http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?p=38206

Edit: to add below

In my opinion, the gas mileage on these cars is not so bad when you compare it to other cars that put out the same amout of horsepower from the factory.
For example, at the same time period IROC Z's had less HP and were using 5.7 L engines.
Imagine what gas mileage would be with a 5.7 Liter.

Can't make power without fuel.

But I think your problem has to do with something else if you are getting that low mpg (12 highway), because mine was over double.

well that may be part of it, you have a lot of hp, 13 psi is enough. 13-14 isnt the worst, just not the best lol hope you find your problem, maybe get it tuned professionally? jsut a though.

Eh, I've done everything I can do for now. I'm willing to accept the gas mileage...because walking on STI's, Z28's, Porsche 944, numerous Hondas(nothing to brag about), it's makes it all worthwhile! :icon_surp.

I'm not trying to get you to buy a civic and sell your supra. Iam saying that you shouldn't be complaining about gas mileage if you say your car is one bad mo'fo with all the power it has. I give you props on you mods man, but you can't actually be serious that you expect to get good gas mileage with a tuned-up high performance engine. Just not possible.

nah...i realize that it isn't going to get good gas mileage...but the main point of this post is to see what OTHER people with comparably modified mk3's are getting...ya know? i owned a 3000gt with nearly double the hp i'm running inthe supra now..so, i know all about bad gas mileage. but no, seriously. this IS my first toyota...so, just curious as to other supra's, ya know?

Buy a civic if you don't like the milage of the supra. The supra is and always will be a gas whore.

Very helpful and constructive post.....NOT !!:3d_frown:

I 'always' fill my tank full. I don't run below 1/4, because if there is any crap in the tank, it will pick it up below 1/4 full.

I 'always use my trip meter to check my mileage at each fill. Before my head gasket job, I always got 17 city, 22-24 hwy. Now it runs better, and quicker, but I 'always' get 15 city, 20-22 hwy. No matter what grade fuel, or whether I ad octane booster or not. (No pinging either, and I live in the Mojave Desert, 20* winters, 110* summers):biglaugh:

Tony, the 1989 IROC Camero with 5.7L actually got/gets 17/25mpg.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm

My aunt had one. It was a badass car. I loved driving it. I'd rather have one than a 1989 Corvette. I couldn't believe the fuel economy either. I've since found out (from owners trading them in for a new car) that Cameros AND Corvettes get that mileage. They came with so much hp the gear ratio is high, so out on hwy, they aren't turning much rpm's.

I'll get 17-19 city and 23-25 highway. Now that it's winter city drops to about 14-16 because of warm up. I live 3 miles round trip from work and it takes longer to warm up(was 24 out this morning) than it does to drive to work.
