The red car is in my back yard and the paint isn't picture worthy. The guy that painted it royally screwed it up. For right now it's going to just sit here until I can get some time to fix the body work.

The garnett pearl 92 is the one that I dyno'd.

I finally have internet back at home, so I can see a little more of what is going on. George told me it was pretty bad. My front bumper looks good in pictures, but it is far from what I would call fact-o-bake quality. I can't complain, as I have no money in the deal. It looks better than a cracked up black bumper, but you can still see black and cracks in it.

Also, my car is no longer flaw free. It is back to idling high again, and has been very hard to start. I took it and got it registered yesterday. It drove fine on the way there, but started to run really rough on the way home. I stopped to check a 2-prong plug that seemed to be a problem the day before. I have no idea what that plug is, so I turned the car off to fool with it. I ran the battery down trying to get it cranked again. I made the 5 mile walk home, and went back after the wife got home to tey again with jumper cables. After a lot of trying, I finally got it to start, but it was still running pretty crappy. It would roughly idle, and when I gave it gas, it would choke. I ran it for a little while trying to see if it would change. I was explaining to the wife that it was going to have to spend the night, when it all of the sudden changed, and audibly caught both of our attention. It went to perfect idle, and drove home without issue. I have several guesses as to what it could be.

1. I think it is related to a wiring issue with my AFC-NEO. It gets power any time the battery is connected. It also shuts down and re initializes at about 3200-3400 rpm every time. When that happens, there is no change in how the motor runs, so I assume it holds the correction it was at when power was lost. I do need to send it to Apex-i for the upgrade, so maybe it will work better after it comes back. It is known to have issues without the upgrade, but has never acted like this before.

2. Could be a dying Walbro. There have been a couple of times since fixing the wiring issue that gave it power at all times, that it has not gotten any power while trying to start.

3. Could be the whole re-working my harness to work for the 92 with the 89 harness. It has worked for the most part, but I am not happy with it yet. I will eventually buy a new harness from Toyota, and get a fields harness for the NEO. (Can you tell I hate this damn NEO yet?)

4. Could be a TPS issue. I can drop the idle when it is at a fast pace by pulling back on the throttle body linkage. That is one of the (very few) things that neither of these red cars has taught me yet.

5. Could be a problem caused by some sort of re-wiring done by David Z that I didn't know about. This one is far fetched, but I figured I'd mention it.

Hope you get that little stuff tracked down Scott.

Pretty sure I already apologized about the quality of workmanship on your bumper, not that helps any.:: angry :: :: angry :::: angry ::

And I don't get angry.

Ran into one of the locals and we're going to try and have a lunch/cruise here shortly. You missed the last one. The cruise was fun even if I got pulled on by my friends Z06. Should be fun rematch w/the 92.

I am having one hell of a time running down the reason that I have not been able to start the car in the last few weeks. For some reason, I kinda forgot about this thread. I finally got the car to run good enough to go get it registered.

Here's how that went down. I had it running good, and had to go get some gas to make the trip to get it registered. After fueling, the car would not re-start. It took me a good while to figure it out. I finally found a 2-pin wiring connector near the fuse block that was not connected good, because it did not match up connector wise. After taking the connector off of one end, I was able to hook the terminals directly to the other plug, and the car started right up. I decided to wait for the next day to go register. As I got home, the car started to run a little crazy. One of those wires had come back off. I put it on, and it cleared up right away. So, the next day, I was able to find a little extra slack on those 2 wires, and it ran well. I ventured out for the 10 mile drive to get it registered. I guess I should mention, through all of this, it did always take longer than it should to get the car to start every time I tried. I thought that was the cold start. So, the car did great on the way there. I pushed it up to about 80-85 on the interstate, and I was in love with the ride. It still needed some tuning for full power, but it was the best I had seen out of the car yet. I had no trouble getting it registered on the first try. But, I still had to get home. It made it about 1/2 way home, and again started to run all rough, as if the wires had come loose again. Not having a clus what those wires were, I turned the car off to play with them. I snugged them up, but it would not start again as it had. I hadn't done my walk for the day, so the 5 mile walk home wasn't too bad. I waited on the wife to get home from work, and we went back to see what it would do. We put jumper cables on it, and it took about 10 minutes of on and off cranking to finally get it to fire up. When it started, it ran really rough, and almost would die if I tried to make the car move. I took the cables loose, and was standing behind the car explaining to the wife that I did not think it was going to make it home. 2-3 minutes went by, and all of the sudden, it kind of choked, and then started to run fantastically. I jumped in, and headed home. It drove great again all the way home. That was the very last time that the car has run. I have tried for a couple of weeks now to get it to start again. It's pulled in to my carport, where there are no lights. It has been overcast and somewhat dark with the motor behind the open hood, blocking most light coming that way.

I have tested several parts per the TSRM. I replaced my idle speed control before breaking out the book. I now have 2 good TSRM tested ISC's! I found out that specs on a 92 CPS are different from specs on CYGNUS, which I thought was for a 91. I have no idea what year CPS I have, but the brains around the site say I am OK there. I'm hoping tomorrow that I can get into testing my coil pack, TPS, and igniter. I also did add the extra ground to my igniter somewhere along the way. That is supposed to be one of the best things you can do under the hood. Maybe it will help idle after I get the starting problem figured out.

Nope, I converted the harness out of the 89 to fit the 92. I can't help but worry about the harness whenever I have a problem.

I tried to pull codes today for about the 3rd time. This time, I realized that my check engine light does not even work. Then the wife dragged me away to go shop a little.ugh! I will pull the cluster tomorrow, and see if the light is just bad or removed. Hopefully that is the case.

Damn the luck Scott. Jay Blue is still sitting in the driveway right now as we speak. ;) ;)

I'll be in Alabama all this week starting tomorrow, but I'll be in Anniston so not very close to you. Doing a WMD class through Homeland Security, otherwise I'd be there to cuss and discuss the situation.

I see how it is Ken. No need to tell me that you're in Alabama.........:icon_frow

Scott, I wish I had something useful to add to your delima but I don't.

Could it possibly be something in the fuel lines or fuel filter? Fuel pump maybe? Hopefully you can get the cel fixed so you can actually do some code checking. That will help out a lot. Good luck.

For anyone visiting from Texas, my number is 205-243-0622 and if you're in Anniston, you're not too far away from Jeff, RacerXJ220. Chuck is also close by and he has a gorgeous silver MKIII with a torque free 1jz.

I'll do enough cussing for you, me and Jay

Chuck (Dogdrake) is in Anniston, not sure about exactly where Jeff is. Chuck is a super nice guy, with that really nice MKIII and a bad ass truck. Ken, if you can believe this, he has a garage that can beat mine and yours together!

I have tried to replace the light in the CEL this morning. The bulb was not missing, and I put 2-3 known good bulbs in it with no luck. I guess I need to start a thread asking how to figure that out. Anybody in here know?

I believe I just found the problem. I am not getting 12 volts (or any at all) to the igniter. Now I have to figure out how to fix that. I'm assuming that it has something to do with the wiring harness. It was running, so I know it was getting 12 volts. There were some pins that didn't fit the new housings perfectly, when I re-pinned. I will chase down the wire, and hopefully it just fell out of place in the housing. I have plenty of extra wiring terminals, so I can either find the correct kind in a different color, or take that wire out of both ends of the housing, and connect them somehow permanently.

I'm SO ordering a new 92 harness whenever I am gainfully employed again!

If I only had a brain! The one I have processes way too slow.

I started out finding the wire color was Blue with a yellow stripe. I looked through the thread that showed me how to re-pin my harness, and there is a wire of that color, that is supposed to go to the M3 plug. When I did the re-pin, I did not have a blue/yellow for the M3. The body side of that plug didn't have it either, and Eathan told me what it was for back then, but it was not needed.

So, after a couple of hours of forgetting about it, it hits me that, more than likely, the blue/yellow I need is on a plug to the ECU. It's raining again now, so I can't go hunt it there. I did not re-pin anything at the ECU plugs. This scares me that it could actually be in my ECU or my wiring now.

Oh baby I'm sorry. I really thought I'd be too far away from you. I had very little internet access all week so this is the first time I'm seeing this. There was almost no cellphone signal either. I'm home now but next time I go to Alabama it will be just to see you guys! Hopefully you'll have me.

Scott, I really really really really really hope this fixes your problem.

Not car related so much, but can I let out aWOOT!!!!!

I just got word that I am going to be a Mailman. It will pay better than anything I have ever had, but they can only tell me (not even guaranty) that I will get 20 hours a week. I'm assuming that is until they see if I will work out or not.

So I'm going to bump this thread in hopes there is progress. ;)

I see I have new advise in my thread about my check engine light that might help me get it started and my CEL figured out if it is the problem. I am leaving to go get the wife right now, so I'll have to check it out later.
