OK so no one on CS.com warned me this wasnt a straight bolt in affair as I thought it was. After a couple mods to make sure I still had a horn and that my signals would self cancel here it is in its installed glory. Ive VERY pleased with how it came out.

out with the old...

In with the new...

The new shift boot as well:

All 3 recent interior mod/replacements together:

Eventually I plan to make the cruise control buttons work like an 89, but I think thats going to require swapping out the whole column, so for now they are dead switches.

Reserving this space so when after I get the thesarus out, I can edit with an appropriate statement of awe! ;)

Heh! nice. Im actually tickled pink with how it came out. Worth the 12+ hours it all took? Debateable, but I should be able to enjoy it for a good long time, so Im sure it will pay off.

edit: with the scraps I have left over Im going to attempt a leather cover for the shift knob.

I need to break out a tape measure, but the MKII steering wheels feels liek it's a larger diameter than the MKIII wheel...

How's the depth?

The mk2 wheel is in fact 1" larger in diameter, and .5" taller from hub to rim, but the difference is hardly noticable. I just took a nice little trip across town and its frigging brilliant. Its feels so good and slides through my grip coming off corners so nice. The extra padding i put under it is perfect, not too much and not to little.

But Im a little upset. :nono: While moddifying it to fit the mk2 column I put a nick in the leather at about 1 oclock right on the face. Its no bigger than the tip of a dull pencil but its noticable to me...especially on the first day. GRRR. Oh well, like most everything else on my car, its just short of flawless...and for a car I have less than $1800 into...I cant complain.

its just a scuff/nick in the shiny surface. I actually think a dab of shoe polish will hide it. 95% of the people that look at it wont see it, BUT I DO...

Im moving on to:
1. shift knob
2. camera mount
3. cold air box

So I wanted an in car camera mount. I looked at some different versions of home made ones and settled on a pole mount. This way I can use it in a variety of different applications, including out the sunroof and other "outside looking in" shots. Here is what I did.

Extendable paint roller pole, cut and threaded to fit the head of my tripod:

Then I made a plate that hooks over and into the rear privacy shade,

threaded it to fit the pole and fit it under the tripod head.

The pole shoves down in between the seats and the plate hooks over the sunshade. Its perfectly stable and adjustable

Im planning on taking a little footage tomorrow after I finish my shift knob and e-brake covers.

The camera mount doesn't look very sturdy but if you say it is then I'll believe it I suppose lol. Looking forward to some footage!

Personally I think the wheel is too modern for the MKII interior. I would have opted for the pre-89 wheel, although tough to find in black :sarcasm:

One last thing: man, the cup holders seem to be at quite the angle! Is that just the way the picture is shot or do you have to drink 1/4 of a can of soda before you can use the holder?

wow, just full of doubt arent we? :sarcasm:

The camera mount is was sturdy enough without the second plate, its overkill. The seats wedge the pole pretty tightly as is. If I have some time I'll so a test run tomorrow.

The single best USDM Supra wheel ever made is not too modern. It feels and looks fantastic and with SUPRA written in mk2/3 script right on the front of it, it fits with my theme, which is factory - upgraded.

The cup holder is at a little angle. It was a product of the mounting system. I dont drive around every day with a drink in hand so it serves its purpose, as a spare hand while I shift and drive on my way back from the fast food place. I plan to put on in the console that will handle larger heavier cups. And who opens a can without taking a couple big sips before putting it down? ;)

I appreciate you looking out for me, but Im more than pleased with what Ive done so far inside. Here is one more luxury piece I finished tonight. Only took two tries with my leather scraps and 2 hours of stitching, lol.

It feels ohh so sexy in my hand too!

Tomorrow Im going to make a wrap for the stock e-brake lever. Mk2's dont have leather on them stock, like mk3's.

hehe well as long as you're happy ;) Seriously though it's looking really really good. I've actually looked at several MKII's lately (looking to buy obv) and the desire has been largely driven by this thread.

What I was getting at with "modern" was "too round" for the rest of the angles of the interior. I like the wheel, I put the exact on in my '87 to go with the rest of my black interior. Even while I was doing that I thought it might be to organically shaped for MKIII though.

But don't let my nit-picking slow you down :)

I think the shift knob is one of the nicest yet. But what is that you are drinking? Look at all those caps........a sign of hard work!

Heh, Henry Weinhards Belgian Wheat (Weinhards is a NW brand). I dont drink much these days but for some reason felt like having a few last night.

And thanks for the positive comments guys.

Here is an updated pic of my shift knob in place with the slightly altered shifter boot in place as well:

Today I built my cold air intake setup. First, cut out the bottom of the fender well below the intake, and insert a rain/splash guard.

Then built the box out of 24ga stainless and installed:
