Best fighter/interceptor is the F22. (That we know of anyway.)
Latest and greatest stuff is not known to 99.9% of us, as it should be.
The JSF will be very cool too. (STOL ability, supercruise engines and a "stealth" design so they are not very observable.) Should make a good replacement for the F18, F16 as the F22 has replaced the F15. (Still one of the best fighter/interceptors on the planet even being "outdated" by the new F22... )
Give me a F15 v/s 99% of the Russian stuff, French stuff and EU stuff, not to mention the Chinese aircraft, and It would come out on top most of the time. (Put the F22 in there and it's a bloodbath for our enimies, just as it should be.)

Well I might be a dork.. But I loved the F-4 phantom beautiful aircraft. Used to live outside Ellington AFB in pasadena texas when I was kid (20 years ago)and they would fly out into the gulf on M.I.G. caps . It was bad ass to see/hear them take off right over the road low enough for me to see rivits on the belly . One of our neighbors was a Air force guy dont really remember what he did but he got me and my dad onto base and took us into a hanger . I was able to get right up close and touch it . Still had the Vietnam Camo scheme paint and if I am not mistaken had a few holes in the tail . Maid one hell of an impression on a 14 year old

One badass aircraft was the F-111. It was old, but from what I have heard, IT was the REAL "tank killer" during the Gulf War, no matter WHAT people have to say about the A-10s. That, and it was a very good aircraft for escape, as it was very stable at low altitude, throttle maxed operation.

Ok, A10's are badass for sure, but your right, laser guided bombs took out many of the Iraqi tanks in the first gulf war.
That and the B52's carpet bombed the living hell out of the troops SoDamnIsane put down in the trenches.
F22 and JSF will get all the bugs worked out, it's just a matter of time. Untill then the F15E is pretty dang amazing considering how old that platform is.

Coolest patch I ever saw was in Europe during the Cold War. It was on the F-111 stationed there..."Warsaw Pact Central Heating"... a F-111 hauling butt w/ a nuke going off in the background.

Don't confuse the F-111 w/ the EF-111...completely different missions.
The F-15E has far more capability than the F-111 in the precision bombing role. The AF didn't replace the EF-111...instead the F-16 & F-15E uses the external jamming pods. For 90% of the threats the US goes up against, these are adequate. Otherwise, we rely on the F-16C Blk 50 (HARM shooter) to take out the SAM sites vs jamming them. Used Navy assets as well...EA-6B Prowlers to be specific...jamming wise almost as capable as the EF-111 and can shoot HARMs too.
