They are small compare to the C-130s I work on and they can take off from a carrier too. Just look at this http://www.theaviationzone.com/factsheets/c130.asp

C-130s always hauling the trash:evil2:

Psh C-130's, We have like 11 C-5 Galaxy's over here and we just got in a few C-17's but theyr'e smaller than the C-5's.

I live right next to Travis AFB, US's largest MAT base.

Edit: Years ago we had some B-52's and those things are fuckin huge!

B-1b Lancer ... a jet bomber with the automatic sweeping wings that can go supersonic... last summer I was at Ellsworth for a month and woke up to see those bad boys taking off all day and night. So...badass.

I heard a story from one of the B-1 pilots. He said in the middle east, sometimes they wouldn't drop bombs. They would fly across the valleys and go supersoinc and the sound of the echoing sonic boom sent insurgents running shitting themselves

Ummm the sweep wings are not automatics. they are levered controlled ;)..

as for the noise

its true

let me put it to you this way

at low levels going full tilt... you hear nothing and then all of a sudden... BOOOM plus the engine noise of all four turbofans screaming at 100% power!!! ;)

when I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB ( i was avoinics for the B-1b ;) )

we had a "no noise" ordinance at night so we could not run engines until 0600.

You best believe at 0600 the entire base got a wake up call when the B-1b were taking off ;) 120,000 lbs of total thrust is LOUD ;)

LOL. B52 ftw. :) Carpet bombing for Iraq! :D

I've always wanted to get my pilot's license... I understand I can get a civilian license, even though I wear glasses, right?

Damn.

If I ever got my license, I want a P38. I would kill to ride a P38 Lightning just once.

Can't talk or find your way without comm/nav, and you can't target or do recon work without sensors.
Then again, we ARE the CND kings.

I work on C-130s as well. The cool kind.

I grounded numerous flights because officers were assholes..

nothing better than trying to be nice and the officers pulling rank, take out the FAA maintanance book and give the plain a NICE BIG RED X and then say, sorry sir. This plane is grounded for that light you called in. unsafe condition.

I ALWAYS carried a red pen with me. ;) must officers that knew me (played on a soccer league with them) we were cool and always redball'd parts for them to get them to the air strip on time. But the new rookies would always attempt ( i am a lt or captain) the pull rank and I would be. Yes sir!

X for malfuctions slats controller with no avialbe parts until 10 am (flight was supposed to be at 0730).

Welcome to the squadron sir.

Of course the other officers I guess told the rookie to say that as they would get off the plane laughing thier asses off, apparently he was unaware that us enlisted folks with red pen are dangerous!!! lmfao.
