I wonder how much the Russians charge to fly a Mig these days...

These days most migs don't fly - They are all rusting to pieces.

Thank you 91T :icon_bigg

I've got quite a bit of time in the Nevada desert myself...worked the Nellis ranges many times and did a little "cut" across pyramid lake myself heading down to the Fallon range. Just loved buzzing boats at a high rate of speed...LOL.

BTW - Congrats to your son...getting to work on the AF newest fighter from the ground floor is an achievement. And the SU-37 isn't going to stand a chance against the F-22...they've sent the best we have against the F-22 in 4-6 to one ratios...they all died.

I think "Shhhh...You'll scare all the fish away!" would be an understatement.

I respect the F-14 and it's service, but I think it's time they step aside. The old Tommy has been adapted to use the LANTIRN targeting pod from the F-15E [the LANTIRN pods are one of the main things that makes the E model what it is]. The LANTIRN [Low Altitude Navigation Targeting InfraRed for Night] pods are also used on the F-16, but the pods are kinda older technology and are being replaced by other, more advanced targeting pods, such as the "Litening" and "Sniper" pods.
That being said, the LANTIRN pods are still pretty cool, and work well when tweaked correctly by backshop personnel [I worked on them for a year in Korea.]
I'll be separating from the Air Force in November, but I am still a fan of some of the aircraft. Of course, I grew up in a MCAS environment and I really love the F/A-18 Super Hornet [speed of the F-15 and manueverability of the F-16? I'm in].

I've seen that...we had the same type test aircraft here, but did not go forward with the technology. Something else to keep in mind from a combat capability perspective...you can have the best aircraft on the planet, but if you don't adequately train and keep your pilots proficient...it does you no good. A highly experienced fighter pilot in an inferior, but capable aircraft will kick ass and take names...history has taught that lesson many times.

Experience and treachery will beat youth and skill every time ;)

Another point to remember, a plane can only turn as fast as the pilot is able to turn it...

I used to have a Vietnam poster that had a story on it about two U.S. pilots in older P-51 type planes taking down a mig. That was pretty impressive.

Neither does that. ;) No stealth capability, no vector flying (this > *), no "hide away" munitions, way slower than a f22 (f22 does mach 2 WITHOUT afterburners), bigger/heavier, there's more I'm forgetting.

Very true, jdub!

Yeah...But it looks cooler.

F-14 was good for its time

the F-15 and F-16 (lawn dart baby) are much better. Of course the F-16 didn't earn the nickname lawn dart for no reason.

Personally

B-1b bomber above all else ;)

Yeah watched that the other day.

If you've never been next to an actually F-14 tommy, then you have no clue how large they really are. You catch yourself thinking: These things actually fly off the end of a carrier deck?

To add: Way ahead of its time...
They are small compare to the C-130s I work on and they can take off from a carrier too. Just look at this http://www.theaviationzone.com/factsheets/c130.asp

C-130s always hauling the trash:evil2:

B-1b Lancer ... a jet bomber with the automatic sweeping wings that can go supersonic... last summer I was at Ellsworth for a month and woke up to see those bad boys taking off all day and night. So...badass.

I heard a story from one of the B-1 pilots. He said in the middle east, sometimes they wouldn't drop bombs. They would fly across the valleys and go supersoinc and the sound of the echoing sonic boom sent insurgents running shitting themselves
