You forgot reduced CO2
LOL! That's funny.

My reason is #1. Being cheap. The cats I had are NFG, and a decent replacement was more $$$ than I wanted to spend. I might have done it anyway had I not been able to get the downpipe that I have that eliminates both cats.

Well, not saying I'm putting a pre-cat on my DP as the main is more than enough for our cars (except for cold starts, but who gets their car inspected while it's cold?)

I know that I got a down pipe just that and I lost top end on my car, a full three inch id say you would lose top end, but if you plan on upgrading I would go with it anyhow.

Funny, the only time people talk about losing some of the RPM range with an exhaust upgrade, it's usually the BOTTOM end that they lose. Any more free-flowing exhaust should be better in the high RPM ranges, where the system is pushing the most exhaust gasses through the piping.

Lots of opinions out there - Let me throw this up there.

Dyno tests show about a 20hp gain in using a divorced downpipe (over a standard BIC dp!).

Tells me you gain at best 10hp with a divorced setup which is a gain...but not inline with some claims I've read.

those are theoretical ESTIMATES. Every car is different, and depending on what mods you already have, will depend on the power your pushing. use that thread with somewhat of a caution, and just realize if you slap on a DDP then your not automatically going to get +20hp!

man, i just read through this thread and i can't believe how someone asking what size of exhaust is good can turn into this. yeah some people don't have the money to spend on the high quality parts. let them be. you guys don't need to be asses about it.

it should have been answered.......3" for just about everyone. up until you have put so much money and obsession into your mk3 your crazy and its your life. then get the 4".

You're also forgetting the that the dyno was against a normal BIC DP, which is a hell of a lot better than the stock setup.

A DDP wakes a car up a LOT, the Type-A racecars used a DDP setup...

That problem is my benefit ;)

I'm buying a piece of pipe that makes my car loud and faster. If I bought something that mattered, say: injectors, fuel pump, and/or a fuel pressure regulator from eBay/Chinaman, then there's reason to complain.

Am I a bad person because I buy Safeway brand instead of Coke/Pepsi? It tastes the same. The exception is the bagged cereal... man that crap is gross!

Bad example. Coke and Pepsi make generic soda products for private label use.

One other thing, carbon dioxide is the desired product of the catalytic converter. It does not reduce it. The cat converts HC, CO and NOx into CO2 and H2O and N2.

Carbon dioxide is necessary for life, it isn't a pollutant. But that is a different thread.
