Today it was time to start with the big piece.
It's to big for the lathe, so I had to cutt it in a big saw.
From every piece I cut I will get 3 bushings.

All that is needed now are some radius

Didnt get much time to work on my own parts today, but I did manage to
do the radius that was needed on the bigger bushings.

Finaly a visit to the garage
I continued with the right rear wheelhouse and managed to almost
finish the front part of the arch.
I have test fitted the plastic detailes and they fit very good.

I took of the diff from the rear subframe and started cutting the bolts
holding the lower arms, but forgot to take pictures of that.

There is now more rust free steel than there is rusty steel in the wheelhouse

The rear subframe became free of the diff

...which now is on a shelf

Some more time has been spent in the lathe
Only 9 more bushing halfs to be made.

The front upper ones now look a little bit better after some more work

The front lower one has now the right radius

Six of 12 halfs for the rear subframe are done

Today was a good day I had a friend with me so there was some welding, grinding,
cutting and some drinking (energy drinks, no alcohol), so it was a good day.
I was pleasently surprised when he acctually did some work with me instead just drinking
my energy drinks
Found some more rust And it took some work to remove it, but we got there

He worked on the old undercarriage paint

Dam good find until you hit all that rust, lol! But your doing some really great stuff man! I couldn't have done any of the stuff your doing mainly because I don't have a garage to do all this stuff in at my place. I'm not sure how much I would be willing to do all of this at my house because of having to leave stuff lying around. Perhaps there are garages in my area I could take it to and work on it myself...kind of like self storage but garages for cars, lol! Doubt it but worth checking into I think.

Man this is going to be more harder for me than I thought without a garage of my own...any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Ofcourse you can. I have been working on cars since 2003 and I just got the garage. So I have been working with the
sky as my roof. I have been working while it was sunshine, raining and snowing. It was in my driveway.
The big diffrence is like you said, I can now leave stuff lying around and wait with painting.
When working outside I had to take everything inside or store it in my car/cars.
And if I did some welding or stuff like that I had to put a coat of protective paint on right away.
My driveway is leaning and has a hard surface. I tried a "party tent" once.
Since I couldnt fasten it to the ground the wind took care of it, in a bad way.
But if you have a lawn or some surface that is a bit softer than asphalt you could use a tent and that
will work very good.

A garage is a big monthly cost and it's even bigger if you have to drive to it.

Well my place doesn't have a huge front. And the back has a nice area for parking but it's all filled in with rocks. Can't roll under the hood like that, lol! On the side of house I can work with certain things but can't leave it too long because the apartment complex next to me owns the lot and will sticker the shit out of my car till it's towed off.

Still trying to figure something out. Engine wise will be the hardest for me because I have no way of pulling it out and I can't work on the engine and leave it laying around outside to be swiped. More than likely WAY too heavy for even a few big guys to move around by hand too? Dunno, any tips, tricks or ideas for working outside would help though! Thanks bro! Keep up the great work! Can't wait to see this bad boy done!

Well, you don't need to roll to get under the car
If it's possible to drive a car there without a problem, then you can put a car on jackstands there.
Just use some bigger plates of stone, steel or wood under the jackstands to even out the weight so that
it's more safe.

My other car is at my parents country house it's the same situation there and I need to fix either the
shifter linkage or the gearbox there since I can't get the reverse in.

If was in your situation I would buy as many parts that I need to replace as possible so that I have
everything when it's time to split the engine.
I would rent or borrow an engine hoist, take the engine apart on an engine stand and then take
everything inside into the apartment. Then the weight would be easy to handle.
I would buy a big pan to clean the parts in. I would then fill old soda bottles with the dirty cleaning
fluid and turn in at an recycle station.

Thanks bro! These are the type of tips and helpful info that I need! I greatly appreciate it! I do own a house though, not an apartment. But yeah I'll see what I can do. I'm going to wait till I get enough money and find a good MKIV because I like them better. Then I'll start ordering everything I need so I can do it all at once, not in a day, but without removing non stop to do a little of this and that. Thanks again!

The right rear wheelhouse does now look like a wheelhouse and not some cheese with alot of
holes in it

I'm also a couple of burnmarks richer from the welding...even on the ass :S

Another mini day in the garage today.
Test mounted a bushing half. It's not perfect :-/ But when the subframe is cleaned
and painted I think the bushing will have that extra support to make it perfect.
I also managed to do a little bit of welding.

Today I attacked the undercarriagepaint with a hotair gun and something to scrape with.
I did as much as I could around the proppelershaft and gearbox.
Not it just needs a date with the wirebrush.

Dam looks like your finding more rust as you go. With all the welding on the frame you have done/have yet to do and the rust removal I would have just bought a shell by now, lol!
