I think he means the slide. In the rain its really easy to loose traction but very hard to get it back. A small mistake gets amplified into a large one in the wet.

yeah, i get you guys... with all the extra weight of the supra (compared to a 240 or similar light weight rwd car) pushing outward through a turn, the smallest mistake can leave a not so pleasant odor in your pants... yeah, stopping becomes a real task when it comes to wet weather drifting. Right now im trying to get my suspension completely done (shocks/springs/swaybars) my motor re-done and a stage 2 clutch... my mom convinced me not to go all out, but to get the car running. I'll see if it'll be reliable enough to get me to orlando for some drift practices...

I come from a land down under
Just watched a Local Drive event on TV here and while I can admire the skill involved it's just so pointless!
I think like Drag racing it would be one of those events that unless you're running a car would get boring and repetitive as a spectator!

Good way to ruin tires IJ but thats what not many people see. Skill! Thats what its all about. Skills and balls. I wouldn't slide a car going that fast so close to, well anything.

I feel the same way. I'd need a huge open course, or lots of area for me to screw up haha. I feel keeping my car is more important than seeing it written off by insurance cuz I ran off the road learning to drift. I do respect the skill though, and would love to learn, just at a controlled environment/event.

Kinda the same with many motorsports I think. Kinda depends on what "level" of compitition you are watching. Amatures get boiring quick, but pro's who have to really push it makes for a great show. Passing while drifting? OMG :aigo: I  it!

For me drifting is fun. Thats it! The whole reason I do it. I have SO much fun even though I suck at it, I really can't concive of a way to have more fun diving a car.

I second that... Any kind of motor sport is fun... all require different skills and push you to your limits as a driver. Myself, I love cars... The import culture itself facinates me.. Driftings fun as hell. Yeah, its a challenge, then again, what sport isn't? Drifters, simply put, know how to drive. Its not as easy as they make it look to control those cars while at the same time trying to make sure you dont all of a sudden gain traction and snap-oversteer...

Rally style drivings where its at.

I think WRC is the ultimate display of skill, any weather any surface any condition what so ever those guys are balls to wall.

I dont hate drifting or anything but its just not fun to watch (Still more entertaining than NASCAR, lol).

Its kinda played out around here cause every kid with a FWD Acura thinks theyre a drifter.

Haha a friend of mine did that but we put broken skateboards under his tires... it was damn funny for the 10 minutes it lasted.

lol... yeah... imma go watch F&F: Tokyo Drift just to see the cars get sideways... the actors aren't the stars in that movie... the cars are. Imma be scared to leave once it finishes... get on the streets and have some dumb kid ass drag through an intersection and knock out a car (hopefuly not mine). Whatever... theres nothing we can do. Im sure the movie will be good. The main problem with it will be the effect it will have on all the teens and their driving skills (or lack of).

I used to respectfully decline my invitation for appreciating drifintg. I'm starting to really dislike drifting. So many good points were raised in this thread. driving stupid on the road on purpose is dumb. therefore probably 70% of all "drifintg" activity is dumb.

70%?
People being idiots out of control endangering others is stupid... I don't call that "drifting"
Drifting on a closed course with a driver who knows what they are doing is very different from some kid losing control in an intersection.
