Domestic vs. Imports

I dont dislike american cars, but some of them are very 'tinny' and cheap-ass, bottom dollar. Muscle Cars are universally cool, and i dont know of anyone over here that dislikes them. They're big and heavy, but they exude waves of coolness, they have soul. They were designed by people with passion, and not like the current generation of designers that seem to be involved primarily in saving a few dollars on the production design.

Our countries car makers have disappeared in the last 20 years, finally disappearing altogether when Rover went bust. For us, a domestic is either a Ford or a Vauxhall (GM). Whilst we get different models than you (the new focus for example, the Fiesta, Fusion, C-Max etc), it's still ultimately built by an American Car company.

You definitely cannot say that one group is better than another simply because EVERY manufacturer has fucked up at some point and made some stupid decisions - each side has its plus and its negative points.

As Cryoslash said - we're all car nuts, why do we have to be divided over make and model?

Because it's human nature.

When conflict arises, people will naturally group together with others like themselves. No real mystery there.

I won't doubt that your Supra was around the 4k mark. Weight can vary between cars for lots of reasons even though the advertised curb weight of the car was 3600-3700(I think). 4200 seems excessive, although possible for some I'm sure.(big system, full tank, spare tire, tool kit, heavier intercooler, etc)

I recall my 89 was weighed once and it was 3800 or 3900 I think. But I had heavy 17in MKIVs as opposed to sawblade 16s, probably stuff in the car, spare in, and lot of fuel in the tank.

I've got a bunch of people getting all up in my face about how domestic cars are better cuz there cheaper!! Me with my low knowledge of cars, love my imports and really have no comebacks. Any help would be wonderful!!!!

Tell them all the extra money you spend for parts is made up in horsepower and gas mileage.

around here, the import crowd is a bunch of ricers, and i tend to fit in more with the domestic and european (def different than the imports) better than the imports.

my Targa N/A weighed in at 3875 lbs with no spare/tools, and a 1/4 tank of gas when it got smogged, no extras though...

sorry, came off a bit harsh, but depending on the year, the 3rd gens had some NASTY issues...

the non-1LE brakes are GARBAGE, especially the backs with the e-brake.

lack of space under the hood to work on the engine (especially TPI), changing spark plugs is a bitch. Cooling system is also an issue on the T/A's (if that small underdam gets ripped off, you WILL overheat on the highway).

window motors, interior that rattles and moves too much (not well mounted), ect...

The Supra has the superior interior (it damn well better have since it was twice the price of the 3rd gens), but the 3rd gens can be made fast in the straight line and around a track, but not as comfortable on a long trip (the recaro interior is the exception, same seats as the recaros in the supras).

As a passenger in a 3rd gen it sucks with that hump (that gets hot after a while)...

I've seen some DAMN clean 3rd gens around here, so I give them respect, but my bro was constantly replacing interor pieces cause they kept breaking (dash cracked easy and wasn't cheap, seats wore out, center console lid, ect...)

if you can find one, the cop versions where very stout cars (had a friend that had one, gutted it, full hotchkis suspension and it was a blast at an SCCA event)

This car is carb'd so has plenty of room....
long tubes make plug changes a breeze...
my interior doesn't rattle or make noise......hmmmm
And w/o a cat the hump will be cut out and flattened out
(also wil be cool again)
the car has the lil air catcher/air dam......and im puttin the grills in it....
i plan on turning the car into a auto-x/drifting car.....so aftermarket suspension all around......

I will agree that the interior is very nice in a mk3........
buuuuuuuutttttt im going 4th gen interior so it will be all comfy......
