differential ratio's

what is the rule of thumb so to say ,

the lower the gear ratio the faster off the start ?

an higher the gear ratio the faster top end spead ?

is that how it goes ?

Other way around. higher = faster start, lower = higher top end.

Lower numerically gives faster road speed per rpm ie: 3.73:1

I had my 86.5 NA lsd in my 90 turbo, worked fine. Only problem is that the speedo will be off.

I think MOST na's came with the NON LSD 4.30.

Your speedo won't be off that much but I don't know in which way. If you have a GPS I'd go off that. I put a 3.91 in mine but I still have the NA a340e in it so when test driving it last week I noticed it was different but couldn't tell if it was faster or slower than what I was actually going.

LSD was standard on the turbo, an option on the GE. I had 4 7MGE W58's, only one was an open diff.

3.91 is what percent of 4.3. Answer that and you know what percent your speedo is off. ( I only gave you that answer because I know a nuke is smart enough to figure it out)

No because every single NA I've had and have looked at did not have one. I'm sure someone here can produce the numbers but IIRC LSD only came on sport models na's.

Nope it was an option. Must be a cali thing to have an LSD then hahah.

And it was an option. My NA had an LSD, but was a sport model. Boris's has an LSD, but isn't sport model.

Most NA's ive seen are LSD as well. Must be a CA thing

Not to hijack the thread, but i've got a quick LSD question. Our stock turbo LSD's were VLSD's, and not clutch type, correct?
