Does that ECU have rpm cut like the 7M and most other TCCS do? The symptoms are identical. If so check the TPS to see if the IDL contact is opening when the throttle is opening. If it doesn't it'll do exactly what you're describing. At least the 7M and most Toyotas do.

but no sense in replacing the caps if thats not what it is.

just replace the damn caps for $40.00 and if it fixes that problem then you'll home free. If not, at least you took care of the caps problem cuz it will fry eventually.

I put heat sink on my ECU to help cool it a bit. Mini fan is probably the best idea if you could find one to fit inside.

Suprahero...yes bad ecu will get the injectors stucked open resulting in dumping fuel to your crankcase. There was a thread in SF about that just don't know the link.

Quick solution.....Ask Tissimo for his ecu to check if the ecu is the real problem....unless Tissimo is using the 2j ecu then never mind.

Electronics typically don't degrade slowly over time, they just die. It is very common for an electrical part to work fine one day and then be dead the next. Happens all the time with computers i.e video cards, memory, cpu's etc. Your 1J ECU is no exception. Sorry to hear about the problem though Josh....

ok a serious answer please.....

Seriously, throw some Ds on that bitch.

haha, all kidding aside, your absolute best bet is to plug in a good known working ecu. my ecu started acting up too. Injectors # 3 and 5 aren't firing. I opened up the ecu and everything looked fine. I'm sending it out tomorrow to get repaired though.

electronics granade it is called "thermal runaway!" it doesnt happen slow! if you dont believe me pull the heat sink off of your cpu on your computer at home on a nice cold or cool day and see how long the cpu last. Ambient temp does not matter.

If you add a fan it will make things worse down the road because it will suck all the dust into your computer then stick in there until a dirty ecu generates even more heat then a clean one because its blanketed in dust sou you need to at least add a filter and clean it at least once every couple months.

The best low maintenence solution is to use heat sinks the one on the back of the old pre 89 supra radios fits perfect!

I have my old ecu for sale but i am going to sell it with 2 feet of wire plus connectors and the jumper harness. selling it because i am just using a stand alone wolf ecu! ill put in fs section soon.

If you decide to replace your ecu which is the easiest thing to do go with arrons driftmotion stinger stand alone setup he is making the adapter harness and is much better then the SARD/MINES/BLITZ ecu because the cost nearly the same as a stand alone which comes with warrenty and could be tuned where with the JDM oem tuned ecus you dont know what the tune is and it might damage your engine because they tune for extremely hi octane gas for daily driven.

awesome. thanks for the replys guys.

ok i took a vid of my car with my phone

keep in mind im holding the throttle at 60% the WHOLE TIME. i'm not letting off or feathering in ANYWAY and this is what its doing. sorry vid is small but you can hear the car and see the tach good enough. the jump in RPMs for a second there was all the car not me

That's gotta suck, but I don't know how to fix it. I'd definately do like everyone else has said, and try to borrow another ecu and see if it fixes it. Good luck.

but we're almost thinking its a sensor failure. cause as justin was saying on another board it sounds like the ecu is being put in limp mode, and he thinks the missing is caused by the limp mode.
