alright well the 1J has been doing good.

my MPG went up after i realized i had a lead foot. i got 290 to a tanK!!!! i was happy!

well this weekend it ran flawlessly. went to the track (didn't run it) but did ALOT of highway pulls ran perfect.

dropped Justin's (tissimo) Car jack off at his house and smoked an SRT4 BAD on the way home running good.

i wake up this morning to go to work i decided to take the supe instead of my rust bucket honda daily.

i fired it up idles perfect......get going down the road and it wont rev past 2300 rpm. it revs up and hits 2300 and shuts off then comes back on at 1600 rpm. WTF!?!?!?! so i reset the ecu in a hurry. fire it back up SAMETHING!!!!

so i leave it in neutral and floor it.....it revs to 2300 shuts off and comes back on at 1600 and thats all it does. so i floor it again and this time it revs to 6K and shuts of and the rpms fall as i keep tapping the gas it has no response. it hits 1600 and comes back on.

everytime it hits 2300 theres a loud clicking coming from the ECU area but justin and i are thinking its the BC solenoid for the e-01.......is this a dead ecu or fried caps????

ECU is in failsafe mode. I'm not 100% correct on this part, but it does this when one of the cam sensors goes bad.

I had this same thing happen to my beater 1JZ SC when I had that. ECU was crapped. I had a spare to test without doing major diag work.

I have the answer on what sensor makes it do that just in case its not the ECU, gimme a few mins.

Ninja edit:
A bad cam sensor will make it do that also.

yea we're gonna check the Crank position sensor when i get home and all that good stuff.

it makes no sense to me tho how it can run and take a beating perfectly fine ALL day and night on sunday, but then i let it sit over night and a sensor goes bad.

Sensor or ECU.

If you don't have a CEL, my bet is ECU.

Getting a new input processor chip for the cam sensor from Nippon Denso is pure Unobtainium.

I now use that ECU for a parts bin, just in case my injector drivers or cap's blow on my SARD.

The injector caps are the three green blocks on the inside of the ECU right? Would there be any visible signs of damage if they are bad?

trials and tribulations on owning a 1J, yours isn't bad considering it ran after the swap.

getting the caps replace will run you around 25-50 dollars, getting a used ecu if you can find one decent with no problems will run around 250-350. i say replace the caps already.

Could be the caps, its a common issue. Not alot of other things break in there.

Here are the cap value with ebay links. Most come from seller TechnoStar so shipping is cheap. You could always just go somewhere local. We have an industrial warehouse here that sell this stuff locally.

Order em up off the internets and have someone solder them on the board like a TV repair shop. Heck, they might have em in stock there.

That's exactly what I did. I had a tv repair shop do mine. He charged me $40.00 for everything. Good luck.

Offtopic warning: Could a bad ecu cause excessive fuel to be dumped into the crankcase?
