i dont see why they didnt request half way through for at least half of the 16k bill before they kept working on it... or at least some money!

so as i keep reading it... the whole situation sounds stupid.
the shop just kept working on the car from what it looks like, im not going to 'defend' the scammer piece of shit, but, theres blame on both sides.

but a little weird of the shop to do work with no deposit. even small work i had done to the supra required a payment if not the whole amount before work was actually done and it was no where near 16K

If the shop has nothing on paper to show the work was requested can they hold the guy to paying? The kid can say he dropped the car off for minor work and didnt authorize the 16k worth.

I don't know kinda seems odd, i don't know either side in the fight. But a thought crossed my mind could the shop be doing this to get a little recognition it just seems odd that a shop would let a bill of 16k ride like that. If not then I truely hate it for the shop to get burned like this. I know the owner talkes like all the money the shop had is tied up in the car, and they are unable to finish any other cars with the money from it. Either way i suppose we will have to wait and see how it turns out.

I just re-read part of their story. The kid paid for the materials they said, so the 16k is all labor? I dont know anything about the cost of paint and interior work but does that sound right? From what I saw in the pics it doesnt look like 16k worth of labor to me. Also, 4 1/2 months to do that work and bill that much? Isnt that a job that should be done in a few weeks not 4 1/2 months.

Nothing adds up to this, except that tampa site has a flood of traffic for their banners. Also the shop now has a name for itself, pics of a car they worked on showing up all over and a paypal account for 'donations'.

From reading your post i'm going to assume that you see what i'm saying it doesn't add up at all. Kinda seems fishy plus they are now getting radio time and will end up with a spot on the 5'o clock news. I hope that it is true and that they get some money back and the kid gets whats coming to him.

Well thats the thing, they didnt really spend anything except time. The kid paid for materials according to the shop. They put in 4 1/2 months worth of work that they are now claiming is worth 16k.

If anything, a huge red flag should have came to their attention when the kid 'barely' was able to afford materials. They should have stopped right there and discussed the total project cost and payment then put it on paper.
