I run electric fans.. no not the lame-o dual 12 incher barely blow a leaf anywhere slim line crap. The dual 13 inch sucker is what i use. Plenty of room between the frame ;)

what, aww come on 14 is that bad? it was at over 20* for god sakes haha, everything feels great now, idles at around 750, course still fluctuates a little, I think my TPS is a little screwy... Ill figure it out.

Why are so many people running 14* advanced though if its that bad?

he's N/A, so you can run that timing, on a turbo motor you're just wishing for a dead engine...

E-fans are FINE, as long as you don't skimp out on them. They'll cool better in stop and go traffic because it's not RPM dependant.

If NOT wired properly, and not sized right or using crappy fans, they're just gonna leave you stranded...

Thanks, I was wondering how reliable they actually are. I think what Ill do is either replace the 7 blades with another 7 or 10 blade with a gte clutch. When I do my "special project" Ill toss in a koyo rad with e fans.

The fan shroud is an integral part of the cooling system..

It broke, never caused a single problem for me other than exposing the fan... I do plan to replace it though. I drover 12 hrs straight to get to where I am now without incident

I'll second that. Try driving up Baker Grade on the way from LA to Vegas. 16 miles straight up. That will really test your cooling system - even before noon.

Try driving it on the hottest summer day in traffic with the aircon on and see how it fares ;)

99* outside, 2 hrs in stop in go traffic back in houston, windows up, A/C at 65* medium blast. needle never went up past her usual mark, and the gauge is still working.

just thought id note- the stock temp gauge is real inaccurate.

yeah, you will know if it has a serious problem, but other than that its far from being realiable. my aftermarket gauge can swing 40 degrees before the stock one thinks about moving.

Im aware its inaccurate and yes I only have a stock gauge but I know it still works, Ive tested a few things to make sure and it will still tell me when its critical. No worries though, next few weeks Ill be picking up new fan, a shroud I hope if I can find one, and 3 new gauges ;)

Cheap fix and you'll never have to worry about for another 15 years.

Fan shroud... ~45.00.
10 blade fan... ~??.?? check.
Re build fan clutch... ~10.00 yep, check.
Making sure you have the engine undertray... priceless.

Do it yourself. JetJock made a thread on how to do on MKIIItech, it takes around 50mL of silicone differential fluid from an RC car (again, check his thread for the exact weight you will need), a good brand to buy would be Mugen, and can be had on ebay for less than 10 bucks.

i know you have decided to go with a mech. fan, but i would just like to ask what everyones problem is with the electrical fans.i have a dual elec. setup with a fluidyne radiator and it works perfect down here in texas with all the heat and humidity. i have an autometer temp gauge and when i switch my fans on, it only take about 10 second before i start seeing the temp dropping back down.

The electric fans do not flow as much air as the stock fan does, You're probably not going to see any issues with your upgraded cooling system, but you may if you drive at high RPMs for an extended amount of time.

This is contradictory.

Even at high speeds, the stock fan will not flow no where near what is coming through the front at a measly 40 mph much less 100+ MPH.
