CF wouldn't weigh a whole lot less but it would still lower your center of gravity pretty well. I wouldn't do the fiberglass but I would go for a very well made full carbon one.

i always wanted a CF targa. i wanted it so it would be even less work to take it off, hehe. Shit, i think it looks cool too. Who the hell has a carbon fiber roof? exactly. i want one.:D
A brace underneath would be ideal. One that can be bolted into the targa bolt locations and could have the top in place at the same time.

i believe that is how this one is contructed. i forget your screenname sir, rayunz is it? i've been pondering the same design for a while now. at least i know it can be done! one day i will have one!

yes yes, back on cf targa topic

Supercars have their entire chassis built out of carbon fiber.

I wouldn't call it "brittle" at all...

You mean a space frame designed car where its unibody and really thick.
Not to mention if you have cops as friends ask them which car haves the worst fatalitys in a high speed collision. I know for a fact if there is two accidents 1 with a vette and one with say a smaller car like a porche the porche will hold together better because steel will absorb impact because its softer and will not shatter when impacted from the side. CF haves weakness that makes it impractical when it comes to strength.

You could make it thick and strong with multiple layers and tight weaves then add some kevlar into the form but with cost the weight savings is not that substantial.

I am leaning towards believing that the flex would chip the resin eventually splitting and cracking it.

If you want to contribute $250 toward weight savings and bling get the hood, bride seats, light weight wheels that would shed pounds and sounds a little bit less risky.

i just dont see the point in getting a CF targa. the stock targa isnt that heavy, i could only see getting it for looks. but if it doesnt fit correctly it wont look good and you've wasted your money.

But CF looks really gay. It reminds me of an intentionaly unpainted Honduh.

Well, different ppl have different opinions on this but I rather spend my money

on that targa brace then get the CF Targa Top. Anyways, this is my opinion

and if you really like the CF top then go for it.

The new F1 cars use carbon fiber in their safety box for the driver, it's FAR stronger than steel.

I think you guys seem to think of sheets instead of a formed piece. Take a flat sheet of steel for a body panel and it will bend all over the place, but once it's formed it won't.

i did see a test of the f1 cockpits on discovery channel a few yrs ago, they were made from carbon fiber. i think they said they could withstand atleast a 10g impact. i cant remember all the specs they said about it, but it was very very strong.

iirc they say cf is stronger than steel at the same weight. so if you had two identical parts one cf one steel the steel would be stronger.

Still no pictures, I say BS on this...........

I'd personally not want one, I would however like a lexan Targa piece so I can still enjoy the sky when its rainy or cold to have the top off kinda like those prick ass vette owners LOL.

What? It doesn't take much weight loss from the very top of the car to lower your center of gravity, thus improving handling.

LOL, no. Add the headliner and trim and you've saved next to no weight. Your statement makes no sense
