I dont like re-using coolant from the drain as it tends to dribble down different things and pick up dirt on the way, maybe im doing something wrong but i prefer to just fill fresh stuff back in. Also, someone mentioned i rebuilt my fan clutch, no, i never did that im not sure where you read that.

About the damper slipping, how could this happen, i just did the timing belt recently and put the damper back on and the key and everything was in perfect shape, i will check this still though.

About the fan clutch again, is OEM the only way to go or to ones from parts stores work equally and last equally?

Ah i understand now.

My aftermarket radiator does not have a tube fitting like the stock one, its just a plug in a threaded hole.

Now that i think about it, don't the inner and outer parts of the damper have the timing grooves in them, so if they slipped wouldn't i see that the grooves aren't lined up?

Direct fit AM Rads have the drain as well ;)

Be great if everyone used parts which were made specifically built for this car. ;)

My Koyo's only got a slot drilled in the plug, not petcock built in... get's VERY messy while you're opening it.

We don't know where he's got this temp sender located. The coolant is hotter in places than others and as Jdub said a rise in OAT will decrease the delta T across the radiator, as will AC load. I'd remove the t-stat and see how much excess capacity remains. That'll settle any question about the condition of the cooling system for good.

I guess the decades I've worked on cars.. ive seen strange things...not READ them on a thread... acually hands on ya know.....

Lmao. Hommer, although I was working on cars when you were in diapers I was never interested in becoming a mechanic. It's not very challenging, the work is dirty, and it pays crap. However I'll put what I know automotive up against what you think you know any day of the week and not just about this car, which I've been working on for nearly half as long as you've been alive. That said you're obviously not familiar with my technical background. If you were you'd understand why cars are among the simplest technology I've ever been around. Really, you should stick to what you know (whatever that is) and leave the heavy lifting to others...

Nope you'll only "see" the slip using the method I described earlier.

I tapped my PWR rad for a proper draincock and fitted an extension hose to make drains easier/cheaper.

ok, i went outside and checked this, it seems to be right on, if its off at all its by 1-2 degrees MAX. But that is probably because i cannot tell EXACTLY when the piston is at tdc. Anyhow, it doesn't look like the pulley has "slipped" any.

You can find pics of JJ's car on this site if you look for them, and personally I would LOVE to see pics of JJ's other vehicles :). I know JJ doesn't need me to stand up for him, but IMO he's one of the most intelligent individuals who's bothered to donate some of his time to this forum to help idiots like me understand what the hell is going on with our cars. I personally appreciate his time, and not to exclude any other valued member of this forum, but I really am thankful that this site is here and that we have people like IJ, JJ and, Jdub guiding us, and SC running the whole show.

So from me: Thanks.
And to Hommer, does it really matter all that much? What you do works for you right? So who cares what anyone else thinks.

thats not the point... Point is i said a thermostate out can cause a car to run hot .. and i have seen in a few cases lower radiator hoses suck shut when motor at high way rpms.. that was cause from a pluged radiator and a soft hose... and another one was just because the hose was not the right hose.. and had no spring in it.. Why you think they put springs in most lowere hoses ?to keep them from sucking shut.. DUH......

telling me i have no clue what im talking about when i have seen these things happen does not help the OP to start with.. both of them want to blow the problem off and say its not problem.. i try to help and get a rash of shit...
not my fault they do not know it all and have not seen it all.. I know i have not.. but to tell me these problems cant happen is a crock of shit...

THEY are giving miss information not me...

P/S what do you think race cars use inplace of a thermostate ? a washer with a hole.. and they come in many diferant sizes.. its to slow the water down... DUH!!!!!!

All they are trying to say simply is that those situations do not apply to the 7M. I personally have worked on several different 7M's and I've never seen a rad hose suck shut, although I did have an LT1 buick roadmaster that had its lower hose suck shut. That was a fantastic time on the side of the road :).

Edit: lol @ IJ
Would you believe that I'm ASE certified in automotive parts? :D
And you are right, none of the arguing is helping me or the OP.

Ok Hommer...whatever you say. I guess my experience working engineering on piping systems for steam generation, turbine, the heat exchangers, and condensers on power generation plants (specifically nuclear ones) doesn't have any bearing either. Nice certification...now work on understanding the physics behind it. Not too sure what that has to do with the coolant system though ;)

BTW - it's called a restricter. And, the motors used are still not a 7M ;)

hommer what your trying to is apply other situations to the supra which wont happen on a surpa. we dont, and we wont ever have a spring on the inside of our rad hoses... its just not how it was designed or made.

and you learned in 92... why havent you gotten re-certified?

hommer, this is totally off topic, but do you have a brother named gary blasingame? im pretty sure he works with my dad! lol

no brothers......

why get re certified ? only needed at time to work on a/c when they switched to 134 and needed cert to by r12.. boss asked if i would take test.. if he paid.. i said sure.gave me check and i went and took test.. did not Ace it.. but passed ... and for not studying i felt i did good..

And
a car is a car is a car... makes no diferance anything can and will go wrong and not always the typical thing.. but i sure hope he figures it out.. and post the problem...

I'm not going to get into this, as it's way too much into the "my dick is bigger than yours" territory.

To answer the OP's question, you can try the parts store fan clutch as it's the N/A style (but they specify it for both, which is dumb). I had tons of issues (overheating, top hose expanding, ect), and went through and changed damn near everything in the cooling system. Most of it was FINE, the parts that were really bad was the top hose and the fan clutch.

BUT, I know that everything is in working order, and I have a larger system that will handle more heat for when I want to upgrade. We all know that our engines are long and all it takes it one overheat to warp the hell outta the head...
