I am looking to go with the Bomex rears from Shine. Would you guys be so kind as to post your fitment pics please. I have seen some that fit snug and some that look like garbage. I am not sure if the ones that looked bad were originals or other copies so I am not implying anything negative against Shine. Did you guys need to mold them?

Thanks in advance....

Chris

I don't think its how they are molded, they really aren't big pieces, so I would think more so on user patients installing them

These rears really should be molded in. I have seen some people who have gotten away with not molding them - but at that point they only look passable, not necessarily good.

They were designed to molded and anything less is really half-assing it IMO. Since I know you're going to do the right thing and get them molded, you don't have to worry about gaps :icon_bigg :icon_razz :sarcasm: I think the ab-flug rears are the only ones that really look good without molding - but the Bomex style is more appealing to me.

Mine fit so good I could have driven around the block with the just the press-fit of them on the car, no fasteners

Mine Too! I believe the true Bomex are that way, but I would not take that chance. Those that are not molded in don't look so great to me. Mine wil be getting molded in when I go to paint soon.

Anybody have any idea what I should expect for a price on having them molded should be? I assume it will be somewhat pricey, or Tookwik probably would not have gone through the trouble of doing it himself. He did a magnificent job on his. Take a look at his thread for a shot at how they SHOULD look.

I wouldn't expect it to be that expensive (although I know how some body shops are :3d_frown: )

I would expect them to charge you ~1-2 hours labor for it.

It's certainly not hard to do if you want to take care of it yourself.

hey chris, you can bond a stud to the back side to bolt through the bumper.some people use other thing's,so the gap is smaller.i don't think i'll be moulding mine.the idea of fiberglass and a urethane bumper bonding, scare's me.if they made a fiberglass rear bumper it would be very easy, kinda like when i did my duct in the gracier bumper(both glass).i've seen thread's on this topic many time's and people talking about moulding them in.i've just yet to see someone post the material they used.
the hiro rear add on look's good without moulding to the bumper

Chris, I've talked to baba about it, he said he can get it perfect when i talked to him serveral months ago. He talked about sanding them down so it flowed to the body then putting a little filler in to fill the small gap.

I agree when arn't molded, they look like complete ass (supranicks car) but molding looks awesome (manny's car)

I agree, Manny's car is THE sexiest Supra on the planet. I've used pictures of it for my desktop quite often. But, this will probably the one and only time Nick's car will ever be described as "complete ass". I can't let that go unchecked. Nick's car is very sexy as well. But your pictures do show the difference very well.

Gaps are better...you just have to do it the right way, that way its easier to take off if you decide to go with a different look rather than taking off your whole rear bumper when its molded in. It also gives the car a more mechanical/urban style look to it.

some great examples

I agree, molded Bomex rears looks better than not molded, but it doesn't look like ass if you have a good set (not all Bomex parts are made equally, not even originals) and is properly mounted. Bomex unmolded rears, on Mike Urbano's car below, look far from ass.

It's about time that people try a different style: Abflug. It goes well with the Bomex sides. Also, matching Abflug sides are available at ShineAutoProject.

My Bomex rear has 1/2" gap. I used double sided tape, it doesn't work very well. I really don't want to put sheet metal screws in my bumper cover.

If I was ever going to Bomex rears they would be molded in, when they aren't molded to me they look half assed. Mike's car and that white one look better, but then looking at that picture of Nick's car it looks so half assed, like they were just thrown on. IMO it ruins the car when they fit like that.

what i want to know is why cant anyone make a side skirt that is JUST as low as the front lip and rears yet DOESNT Look like a goddamn shelf.

even if its a skirt that simply follows the concavity of the stock rocker panel and mudflaps but is suits the lip and rear height, id buy the hell out of it.

even manny's car doesnt have uniform lip to side to rear levels. maybe a side that starts low near the front wheel, archs up to the average side skirt height and then swoops back down to meet the same height as the rear add-on, thatd be perfect!

Totally uncalled for. I know that the Bomex rears are supposed to be molded in...but not molding them in is just my opinion and the way I like it. Unmolded rears is not "half-assed" when you mount it right. But if the rears look like it's falling off then that's "half-assed." In reality and pertaining back to the topic of this thread you should do what makes you happy and don't accuse of people of being cheap because "cheap" can have different meanings.
