Well I finally got the time to actually install the turbo instead of just having it held on with two nuts mocked up.
Here's what I started with:
It's a bolt-on Turbonetics 62-1 T4 with a 4" inlet. Not sure how long they were produced, but both the inducer and exhaust housing sport the Turbonetics symbol.
I removed the scuffed-up, dull, semi-polished inducer housing and took some 0000 steel wool to it to even it out. Then I wet sanded it with 800 grit sand paper. After, I rubbed the housing down in alcohol. It's hard to tell from the first pic, but the letters are painted red. I bought some Duplicolor Toyota black touchup paint and re-did the letters. It took a little bit of time to get them perfect (just did a quick job and then used a q-tip dipped in alcohol to touchup), but it ended up coming out great!
Afterwards, I took some Exotic Metal Polish (love this stuff) and gave it a good buffing with a cheese cloth.
Then I installed the NPT fittings on the turbo and the block, mounted the turbo on the manifold, (required a thick turbo spacer and 65mm studs that were cut from 70mm bolts), and installed the hard lines. I had a bit of difficulty getting to the top right bolt on the manifold, and had to remove the wastegate actuator and inducer housing. Then it was a nightmare to get the actuator back on with the turbo installed. I had to jack up the car and go back and forth climbing into the engine bay (to set the screws) and under the car (to tighten them). However, in the end it came out quite nice.
I still need to tilt the inducer housing a little more towards the manifold, but other than that, it is done.
Just wanted to share :icon_bigg
