Bad AFM electronics or something else?

Shouldn't the car still at least start up and idle even with the AFM unplugged? So if the AFM was bad it should still start up and Idle. Or am I wrong? Cause the car wont stay running, it'll fire up then die.

Yes it should. With the AFM unplugged (code 31), the ECU uses only two signals for the fuel map, IDL and STA. So. as JJ said way back, you have more than one problem....

Ok, I got the car started up and its staying alive now. Its also now throwing code 24. The car would start up and idle for about 5 seconds then just die, during that 5 seconds if i tap the gas it dies. However, if I punched the gas pedal it would hesitate then rev right up.

Also found that having the AFM unplugged did make a difference so I guess the AFM is still working to some extent. With the AFM unplugged I can't rev it up much. with it plugged In I can rev it up.

A few more things I've noticed. I had to jump my car to start it, the battery was dead. After I jumped it, it would stay running on its own. But if I shut the car off for a while and go to start it again it wont start. So battery not holding charge?

Anyway, once it was running I noticed something odd. If I just barely touch the gas and only press it in like a 1/4 of an inch and hold it. I can hear the turbo start spooling up more and more like it's revving up, But the RPMs don't go up at all. Its really wierd. Almost like if you were brake boosting.

I'm just saying every little odd thing I find so that maybe someone can help pin point what the problem might be... ugh its really getting annoying trying to figure this out.

I would start searching the engine harness for burn marks or holes.

As for the turbo spool sound check for boost leaks or open vac lines make sure couplers are on and not hung up on anything

And I have a friend shipping me an AFM to try out. something that's really weird is that when the car is in Park I can rev it up. But when I'm actually driving it the RPMs wont go past a certain point and the Auto shifts through the gears really quickly at very low RPMs

ok jumped the car today got it running. While I have the car in park it will free rev all the way to redline. However, when I took it for a drive the car only would go to 1500 RPM then it sputtered and bogs and the car died. I tried to restart the car and it was totally dead, no power. had to push it back.

Bought a new battery today. Turns out the one that was in the car from when I got it doesn't even have enough cranking amps for a supra lol. The car will fire right up now, but still having the issue running... I think I'm done messing with it till the AFM comes in. I have no other leads than to replace the AFM at this point. I'v cleared the codes several times and ran the car. At this point the only code that I am getting is code 31 which is for the AFM. The other codes are gone.

Sure glad I'm just talking to myself here... this forum has really gone down hill.

People have attempted to help you. What exactly do you want? Someone to come hold your hand too?

until you prove/disprove the afm, there isn't much more to say really.

Since all of the other codes are now gone (progress) - all that is left is your AFM. Now that you've eliminated all of your other problems, does it behave in the manner that an AFM failure would display? If so, you may have actually diagnosed it down to the one last problem.

I've read what you said i just have nothing to say that will help you at this point

Exactly - once you swap the AFM, we'll know for sure if you've ironed out all of the issues...

As this might help, I'll translate.

IDL = Throttle Position sensor
STA = Cranking

(also, see the link in my signature if you want access to more info)

ok, the time you've been waiting for. I got the new AFM today and put it on the car... and it didn't change a single thing. So now what should I be looking into??
