well, lets not forget that most diesel applications routinely run high pressure ratios so they will have a wider trim variant. there will be quite a big difference between the inducer diameter and the exducer diameter.

can someone confirm the sizes of the HX35? id rather not go out to my truck and take the turbo apart... its easy but i just dont want to.

one thing i LOVE about driving my truck is that its SOOOOOO spooly. the antisurge housing (or Map width enhancement grooves) makes this turbo so noisey between 0-6psi. between 20-38psi, this thing WAILS like no bodies business. when i play around on the freeway in my truck, my turbo is louder than the ones on the semi-trucks when i pass them.

I seem to top out at about 34 PSI on my truck. I'm running the edge juice. What are you running that can get your boost so high?

yes, yes and yes.

i have a huge air filter. the BHAF mod. its bigger than a gallon jug. its a 4" turbo back, no cat and no muffler. the turbo feels like new; very tight. i also have a modified #100 fuel plate... since mine is a 12valve. i cant use programmers.

btw, i found an H1E for $500, a new HX40 and a new HX35 for under $400 i think. i also found used BD Super B turbos which are modified HX35's using Borg 61mm wheels, or 62mm. i cant remember. whats the deal w/ an H1E? im not familiar with those...

^Exhaust maybe? Healthy turbo and huge filter???

Well ya, I thought that was a given, and I didn't hear about a different turbo. I just thought 38+ was pushing it a bit...

From what I have read, it is comparable to a HX40.

BTW, would you care to share some dodge diesel truck forums, particularly those that like to get rid of their turbos?

what power range did you want to be in with the 2J?

an HX35 would be awesome for an Auto-cross/street car.

if youre going for more, id probably say an HX40. you might have to mix and match turbine housings though. alot of people in the cummins crowd tend to think that the turbine housing on the HX35 has to be upgraded at my mod level. just for an example of where my truck stands, this is the mod list in my sig at cumminsforum.com
`97 Ram 2500, STD cab, 12v, #100 plate, tweaked AFC, Tabbed KDP, 4" Farmboy's turboback-straightpipe, BHAF, Polished HX35 w/o silencer, 47RE w/ boost reg'd throttle stop, 2wd, 3rd Gen SLT+ Chromes, 3.55's, PSI/Trans/EGT guages. "Throw some coal on'er!"

it probably sounds like jibberish but i expect to be in the 250rwhp and 550rwtq range. another guy put down the same numbers with similar mods and his power figures were actually low because hes over-fueling the stock turbo and his EGT's dont come up under WOT. he was running 34psi and his EGT's were in the 1200's. if he pulled some fuel out, he could make more power... and thats thru an Auto tranny.

So, considering people are putting down 550rwtq thru an Auto on an HX35, you should be able to do similar torque figures at your peak VE point. then just extrapolate the figures and do the calculation to get the HP figures for a general idea. i dont see why 600rwhp wouldnt be attainable on an HX35. what do you think Jon?

you could get an HX35 like what comes on my truck and get an exhaust housing from a 1st generation Dodge diesel. they have different DP flanges but have a larger A/R. oh, and HX35's are T3 flanged if you didnt know already.

the turbos i found are on CumminsForum.com. its not a fast moving forum so the classifieds arent flooded w/ them.

... It flows max 61lbs of air...

What??? my turbo does?

i thought it was rated at like 52lb/min or something. oh wait, Holset says it flows 0.46kg/s. that turns out to be 1.01something. so yeah, after 60 seconds, that is alot of air, lol.

have you heard from anyone using this turbo but have switched to the 14cm hotside? i hear that one is non-gated.

cm2-a/r conversion formula:

((cm2x8)-7)/100=a/r

i would shoot for a 12cm2 housing- .89a/r

by the way, im still looking for a tighter housing for my hx50. that shit is not easy to find- no info on them at all. lol...ive been bugging jon on this topic on and off for a while now....i want this thing on my 7m bad

jon actually suggested gettiing a hx35 housing machined on...the problem is, i think there would be so much meat taken out of the housing to make it fit, i would worry about it cracking. the hx50 is a monster...74mm-76mm inducer- i forget which one, i should go out to the garage and measure but im lazy. im tryin to find a garrett housing that would be suitable....much more options. no body has any definitive answers for these holsets, thats my problem.

i dunno, wouldnt a 35/50 be like a T3 hotside stuck to a GT42??? it wouldnt be a very balanced setup and would create a lot of exhaust gas back pressure.

you might have to do a 40/50 setup by sticking a hotside from a 40 on your 50. thats probably doable.

man, if your forumula for conversion is right, my T88 has a 1.29 AR! and thats on a T4 foot print. and the T88's with 22cm housings are like 1.69 AR... damn that ridiculous.

That doesnt sound like a HX50, more like a HX55 or HX60. But there are different variations of these turbos around.

I have a Holset HX55 in my MKIV. 65/99mm intake wheel, 72mm exhaust wheel and 16cm^2 exhaust housing. I get full spool around 3800rpm.

With a HX40 the most used combo is a 60mm intake wheel, 65mm exhaust wheel and 12-16cm^2 exhaust housing, depending on engine size. With a 3 liter engine, I would get the 16cm^2 housing.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a Holset HX52Pro sometime in the future, 71/71 wheels, with 120lb/min of air.

You guys should also check out the HX40 Super, much broader efficiency range and goes up to 3 bar :) A 2.2 litre 5cyl Audi dynoed around 700hp at 2.8bar with 93 octane pump fuel with the HX40 Super here in Finland :)

Not if its a T3 housing....
