yup, anti-surge housings reduce compressor efficiency and thus lower power....but they sound cool!

Yes!

I can deal with the 2% efficiency loss.

The turbo is already capable for more than needed for my purposes right now.

Nobody has any insight into this?

I am sure the GT3582R, GT4082/4088/4088R/4067R all use the same compressor housing casting and is just bored to match the minor compressor wheel size differences.

More info about the "ported shroud"

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/tech_center/turbo_tech103.html?#t103_3

From this page listing "GT" style turbos, only the GT42 has a listed feature of having a ported shroud, yet all the pictures of the turbos show the "shroud"

Adam.

You told me you have a GT4082, this is the .58AR compressor housing?
I just ordered my 4088 from Dave, and it's a .72AR compressor.

Do you believe they could be different?

I'll get some pics when it comes.

Another thing I notice on that website. Seems only the GT42 series actually SAY "ported-shroud" in the description.

Maybe it's possible the others aren't real anti-surge housings. **Just an idea.**

You could definitely hear it though if it were.

Anti surge housings increase the compressors map width.

If you really want your housing to become antisurge - take it to a machine shop. They can cut the antisurge "slots" on the housing.

Also, Jake - Your antisurge housing is a to4z variety.
