Galant VR4????!??!!

I believe you're thinking of the wrong one.

Not sure if you got these over there:

b2c0_27.JPG

4WD, 280+ brake and a lot of the trick technology from an EVO. Add in the Sleeper status and I think you're on to a bit of a winner

Kai, what exactly is this next car going to be for? If you've already got the Focus as the daily and the Supra for high power thrills, do you really need another Jap supercar? I'd have thought the next logical step would have been something small, light and with excellent handling? Or maybe even a very very quick 4 door Sleeper luxury Saloon? (Cars such as an Aristo or a E34/E39 M5 spring to mind).

The E30 sort of ticks the handling boxes, but I haven't been too impressed with the handling of my 316i Touring (more or less the same suspension setup as a 325i + the bonus of 50/50 weight distro), Although I'm not going to lie, they are VERY good fun - I had a massive smile on my face after my last track day. Heck, even now after selling it on ebay for a tidy profit I'm tempted to tell the buyer not to collect and use it as a daily for myself. I'd watch out of size though, being a chubbier than average guy, I've never found getting in and out of older BMWs as a particularly very graceful experience . I is sort of on . If you're going to buy a E30, buy now as prices seem to be on the increase - My Touring sold on the bay for 5 times what I bought it for 3 months ago (granted, I only paid £100 for it, but still ).

I have been a passenger many a time in a R33 GTS-T and don't rate skylines too much - It felt slow (even from a standing full beans start it didn't have that 'Push in the back' that I was expecting) and the interior is bloody awful - Cramped, the dashboard on the passenger side is depressingly dull and the word 'Legroom' simply does not exist in the back of a R33 Skyline.

I'd suggest something along the lines of a MX5 or a MK1 or 2/3Gen MR2, although if you can fit or not is entirely a different story :icon_bigg.

Somebody didn't read the original poster's location ;). Vettes start at about £5000 ($10000) for a C4 and £10,000 for a C5, plus they're LHD which as the OP has already stated is going to be a royal pain in the arse in a RHD country.

As for the "handle like nothing eles you will ever drive" comment, I think I might agree on that, just not in the good sense - Don't they still have a live rear axle?

not sure... but boss gets them at auction for 4-5k and then some for 8-9k sell fg 6 -11k...
and ive always liked test driving them...so for my opinun.. the best bang for the buck is a vette...

as far as location.. yes i read it.. but just still wanted to say VETTE :}

I didnt know the new 1 series came with the same engine as the 335i, that is pretty damn badass. I've been in the new 335i and those things do get up and go pretty quick, definitely a fun car worth every penny.

Oh hell yea, the 335i is a sleeper. Instant boost... no turbo lag at all. They're fun as hell to drift to they have alot of stearing so you can really get them sideways in the drift..fun stuff.

If I had the extra $$ I wouldnt mind having an MX-5 tricked out for doing auto cross.. great handling vehicle, and you can get lots of toys from mazda speed.

Corvettes have had IRS since 1963... and yes the C5 will outhandle damn near anything on the road...

You guys got a ton of cosworth cars over there as well... Really hard to tell you what to buy from the other side of the pond...

Yeah, let's take an eclipse and put an ugly body on it. It's just as (un)reliable as a DSM too...

Kinda tough to tell you what to get as I know prices over there are going to be a whole lot different then here. Not to mention the different brands...

You guys have access to much better supercars and exotics we never got here (or got in limited numbers).

Galant VR-4 wasnt the 4G engine though, it was a 2.6 litre 6A13 - not the same as the 3000GT's either.

Dont fancy the Benz Cosworth, for two reasons. One the Cosworth badge will ensure insurance costs are ludicrous. Two it's still a 4-cylinder. Same really goes for the Ford Sierra/Granada Cosworths as well. They're fun, but i've had an RS500 before - the insurance was stupid and the parts are starting to get expensive as they get older.

Mazda MX5's are too cramped for me - i'm too wide and too tall, so they're out completely.

Josh, Need != WANT when it comes to cars, so what if i don't NEED it, i WANT one :D

The supra is STILL being built by ed, so i'll probably see it close to the London Olympics... ;)

I had thought about an Aristo, but finding one that's not been driven through a branch of Ripspeed and been 'pimped' is fairly hard, and the unmolested examples command a high premium.

Still researching Skylines, the GTR is what i'm after though, not the GTS-T, which is a single turbo RB25, and designed to be slower than the GTR. As for the interior - as long as *I* can sit in it and be comfortable, thats all that matters, fuck any passengers :)

I LIKE BLAND! I LIKE SLEEPERS! :D

Suggestions that have just came to mind

BMW 8 Series
350Z
TVR Cerbera (if you fit :D)
I know that you're a VAG fan - MK4 R32? S4? MK2 Golf with a VR6 Swap (I might be getting a little carried away)

For the sleeper look - Have you considered a E34 M5? Or for the ultimate sleeper, a Legnum (Galant VR4 'wagon' for those who aren't in the now) or a Stagea (For those who aren't in the know, Think of an Skyline GTS-T Station wagon and add the 4WD system from the GTR and you're about there) - Smoking people in an estate, could there be a better feeling?

Oh, and I require a passenger ride from what you choose as payment for this advice ;).

Looks clean and going by the spec, it hasn't been fiddled with too much, I'd hit it.

Get something worthwhile.

Go bonkers with a second hand TVR, drive it once a month(since itll be in a shopt the rest of the time). Get something classic, a Stag? dunno if you can fit in one haha.

I would get an Alfa Romeo if I lived where they were easily obtainable.

And isn't a skyline kinda unsleeperish.

The skyline i just picked out, in factory spec, is sleeper-ISH, because of its indiscriminate colour....and fairly bland exterior looks, barring the wing.

Josh - BMW 8 series? Are you MAD? The 350Z is ugly as sin and uncomfortable as well...designed by an Indian man from Leicester, powered with a FRENCH engine.

I saw the legnum, but the estate styling doesn't sit well with me.

And TVR's? More impossible to find a good one and get insurance for it, than a Cosworth :p

VAG? No. FWD = MASSIVE FAIL.

Sorry, did you just refer to a GTR Skyline as a sleeper? A hot pink Humvee would have slightly more sheath appeal :D. Be prepared to get pointless questions from every adolescent boy that you will ever come across including me and of course for the classic 'Is that a GEE TEE ARR?' from Barry in his 1.4 Cilo before he trys to take you at the lights

Oh, and what's wrong with an 8 series? They're  (plus a 850 would beat your 6 cylinder requirement quite convincingly :naughty:).
