Alright, I know there are a lot of threads and online posts about this, but what do you guys use to keep your car clean- as in detailing? Maguires?
I am asking because I read a lot into car detailing and know products work different as our paint is 20+ years old, and correct me if I am wrong, any 95 Toyota year or less doesn't use clear coat...

I came across this stuff, and yet has been the best thing I ever used...
The way it brings out the shine and original color seems to match even that of some cheaper rubbing compound and polish together that you can pickup at Autozone...

That is a pic of my old bottle, but when searching on Amazon, I came across this...
http://www.amazon.com/Dri-Wash-Guar...=UTF8&qid=1342006427&sr=1-2&keywords=dri+wash

I am asking because the paint on the hood and roof is still showing signs of oxidation and feel as if I need to polish/wax every 3 weeks or so...
What do you guys use or recommend? I am ordering this stuff and can show before and after pics of how amazing this stuff is...

Haha, well played sir. It's (taste) all relative though. :)

Chris, as for what I use to wash/wax the car, it just happened to be laying around. Turtle Wax Ice car wash (it's decent enough, and got it free at work, since my predecessor left it behind), and some Turtle Wax paste wax. Pain in the ass to apply/buff, but it looks quite nice too. Been 3 or 4 weeks since I washed the car, and if I took a wet rag over it in the garage, it would look 90% as good as if I had just washed it.

Keep in mind also that my car is daily driven in a VERY dusty/dirty environment. My only advice is be careful around the trim, getting wax out from behind it and in the cracks of it... not very fun. ;)

Just hit 144K miles...
I have been driving this car too much lately...
I also have a 2000 4-door civic, and when I walk out of the house and see the old-school red shiny Supra, or the beat and dented up 4 door civic, which car do you think I want to drive?

Dude... it is a car. You're better off driving it than not, that is what it is made for. ;)

Plus, I've seen cars with over 200k that still are in great shape. I'm surprised yours has as many miles on it as it does, it still looks great! Remember, it is the maintenance and upkeep (or lack thereof) that keeps a car in the condition it is.

Chris,
I had the almost the same car...targa 92' turbo, same red...loved that car to death. Seeing your 92 brings back soo many fun memories. Keep her in good shape, maybe get the interior done something close to stock.
My 86.5 has a long long way to go before shes done, but i look forward to keeping up with your build.

Thanks again...
Without your guys comments for motivation and knowledge, I probably would have sold the car or parted it out...

Funny I was recently at a party with my Supra, and my friend was showing off his 2013 Mustang 5.0 with the track package, navigation system, recaro racing seats, and racing stripes...
Their response was like "meh, another Mustang fully loaded", and when they asked what I drove, the word "Supra" got their attention and once they noticed it was the older style type, they were even more amazed in how good of condition it was... Lots of rubbing compound and cleaning put into this...

I have decided just to keep the car stock and would only consider swapping to a r-154 manual and 1 or 2JZ if my engine starts to develop rod knock (which I have been reading about being common after head gasket changes) ::knock on wood::... Even then, I would try to keep the exterior body completely stock...

Here are some pics of the interior taken the same day... Even the floor mats are the original ones the car came with...

I appreciate all the positive comments and will continue to post high resolution photos (I myself like details) and updates on the storyline which this amazing car is bringing me through...
Ultimately plan to keep the car long enough to pass it down to my 4 year old son (won't be his first car of course) but here is him giving it a wash for a start...

Glad to know we do the world some good. :)

As for the Mustang comment, I really feel the same way. While I can appreciate (and would love to drive one, if only to see how far Ford has come with the Mustang), the guy with the 70's Cosworth Escort parked next to it COMMANDS my appreciation, since you know... I can't just go and buy one without any trouble. It takes COMMITMENT to own a car that is no longer produced, even more so cars that are hard to come by.

You know, normally, I'm very much NOT a kid person, but it is posts and stories like this that make me realize that people out there are still raising their kids right (i.e. disciplining them, sharing hobbies with them, generally paying attention to them... be surprised how uncommon that last one is around here. :nono: ), so kudos to you sir. :)

Hey guys, i've been looking into this and found others with the same issue, but no direct resolution with many work arounds... My oil pressure seems to be disturbingly low... Here is a pic of it on idle after driving 30 minutes...
p1872554_1.jpg

I've read that the Toyota spec is 4.3psi (0.3kg) @ idle and 36-71psi (2.5-5.0kg) @ 3000 rpm.
I know the gauge is hard to read (like trying to read 5mph on the speedometer)...
But when driving, it doesn't go above 20 psi...

I have been changing the oil quite constantly after the head gasket change and won't let it go above 3000 miles without one... 10W30 non synthetic regular oil and Toyota OEM filters...
Me and my mechanic are going to start with the oil pressure switch and do trial by error, and work up to the oil pump and am open to suggestions to see if you guys experienced the same issue....

Chris, your oil "problem" is merely the design of the 7m. I would highly suggest that you spend some time reading through the oils and lubrication sub-forum on here, you will learn a LOT about how these cars were made/operate. ;)

Thanks, it was just something I was concerned about but will definitely find time to read into the sub-form...

Yeah I agree, it's something about seeing older cars in good shape that makes me respect the owners more...
I brought it to this Springfield, Va car meet last week and people walked up to it and were taking pictures saying how clean it looked... Out of at least 100 cars...
Made me feel pretty special haha... Especially since there were GTR's, NSX's and many much more expensive cars...

Not the best pics from my phone...

Your car looks really nice, I have a red one and the more I look at the newer Mk3's, it makes me want the red trim instead of the grey trim.

Thanks, I actually re-painted my side stripes with the default 3E5 paint from http://automotivetouchup.com/
The original side stripes were getting a darker, more dirty color. Also the bottom of the strip was this clear, see-through plastic... we just masked it off and painted over all of it...

Thanks! I am loving this car and driving it everyday while the weather is nice...
Everything is working 100% and the turbo pulls strong at 6.8psi... I don't push the car hard as I leave the ECT button off (for the auto) so that it doesn't up-shift so easily... But love hearing the turbo and blow out valve even though everything is stock...

Speaking about power, I also love how this car has that certain "pull"... It's certainly a different feeling from the naturally aspirated cars like the S2000 I previously owned... When I was a little kid and my dad first bought the car, sitting in the back seat getting pulled back; it was certainly the fastest thing I ever felt, and I got that same feeling driving it this morning... When I purchased the S2000, I didn't seem to get that "pull." Even giving the 2013 Mustang 5.0 owner a drive in my Supra, we agreed that the "pulls" are different in our cars... I know there are more details on how the physics works with this, but it's about the experience...
