I started the rebuilding process again.
I went to advance, and o'reilly to find a dial caliper- the associates didnt have a clue what it was.
One said "is that a new style of calipers/brakes?- what kinda car is that on?"
lol- naw doood. its a measuring instrument. it has a round gauge.
then he walked me to the autometer gauge section. OK?
I didnt wanna seem like a jerk- so I asked if I can see the catalog. He said "ya must be the only builder in town. watcha buildin?"
a supra.
he goes- "i have a srt/4 neon that makes 600hp. I'll make the 1/4 in 8 secs"
WTF? and then he became a royal PITA too!
*********************************
Lesson Learned- ya gotta ignore the idiots. ya losin precious rebuild time!

well... (what I should done in the 1st place) I called my uncle, and asked if he knew where I can buy one. He said "jus come over N pik it up suun" My unc's just plain cool!
SO- off to the rebuild
I print the specs from the tsrm and head out to the car.
I check for thrust clearances on all the rods and crank.
ALL BEAUTIFUL!!!!! yea!
Then I uncap the #1 rod only to find-
That motor is barely broke in.
a very clean rodcap. the bearings still had some of the white paint too.
woohoooo!
still, i need to know the oil clearances-
[edit] (this is how NOT to do plastigauge!)[/edit]
So i clean up the bearing and cap and laid a piece of green plastigauge.
The clearances were on the tight side.
[-edit] (be sure that the plastigauge is between the bearing & crank next time!)[/edit]
well- it was time to torque it down again. Cleaned off the plastigauge and started step torquing.
I take my time so it seats well. 10pds, 20pds, 30pds. one of the bolts felt funny. Then goin for 40-
...... POP!
oh sh*t! freekin out again-
the rod bolts were stock- not arps!
FYI- Toyota bolts really do STRETCH! thats why you dont re-use em for the rebuild!
well- i had to remove the bolt from the rod. hmmm. darn things on there tight!
SO- i screw in the sparkplugs and tapped away at it.- finally got it.
for the good side, i put the nut back on so it was level with the top of the bolt- then tapped it out easily.
now i wait for ARP rodbolts.
