Am now in the tedious job of tracking down leaks. No leaks from spoiler or taillights... rather I have small leaks coming from the welds where the side panels meet the rear panel in the rain gutter for the hatch. Probably damage from the rear-ending. If I sealed it from the inside, then I still have all that water between the panels since the entry point is higher and pretty far from where I can see it leaking out. So, I'm going to fipg the exterior weld spot, then put some weatherstripping tape over it to make it look like it was meant to be =/

Still leaking. I have now fipged every crack or seemingly cracked spot in the gutters... hopefully its all sealed. going to test waterproofness again later. if all is well, then it is finally time to put the interior back in. =D

lol yeah... it will be quite some time before I get to lower it with new rims :(

but in the meantime, more pics. Nothing final yet though so, hold your horses =D

Remember my mounting fiasco? here is a bunch of hardware I got to solve the problem. All credit goes to Josh =D thanks man for the ideas!!

here is how I went about it:
sm_photo_missing.jpg

mockup of washers and c- clips and those cool metal clips thingys that look super hardcore

sm_photo_missing.jpg

more clamps since I just keep breaking them... ugh

sm_photo_missing.jpg

$600 worth of painted parts and some bodywork

in actuality, the metal point was only long enough for the neoprene washer, the metal washer, and the small C clip. I was unable to use the cool metal ones because they were so freakin hard to get on. I needed like 4 hands in that tight space to get those on. 3 would've helped with the small c clips, but I managed with 2 so =D LoL do note that the neoprene washer is on the wrong side here... the pictures later show how it really looks once it's on.

sm_photo_missing.jpg

here's why... ugh

sm_photo_missing.jpg

Modified Josh's idea and here was my solution for the plastic mounts. Break off tabs, then use a screw all the way through with washers on the inside. It's so much easier than stock, just screw onto spoiler pieces, position correctly and tighten like a mofo from the inside, take off spoiler and waterproof the mount!!

SHIT. I just finished going through everything. All the money I've spent so far, beginning from when I bought the new jdm engine and the swap all the way to my latest items and maintenance cost estimated... I'm almost at $15,000. FUCK MY LIFE. Next job will take about $2800 worth of stuff. After that $3700 worth of ARZ wilwoods and bushings and shocks and springs... and then rims... I don't even know how much rims will run me for. FML

LoL.

My front lip has NOT always been like that . I t was pretty banged up when I took over. I straightened it out by bending the metal bars that secure it. It was a mixture of bending the actual frame piece in the bumper and the bar that secures the lip. Of course it's not perfect, it still has the slight retraction from being bent in the first place. However I hear that a heat gun works wonders. Either way, I have a new lip coming in from Retro-spec hopefully sometime soon.

*sigh idk about having a mk4 for 15k... I've been window shopping the for sale section on Supraforums for about a week now... can't really get anything good (in my mind: all black int, AUTO, stock bodied with trd wing, single or stock tt, and as little modification to interior as possible, and did I mention AUTO) for under 20k. :(

I hear this a lot. If I wanted a MKIV.. I would have bought a MKIV. They are 2 different cats. I could have bought a BMW.. or a fully done MKIII for what I paid and still have to put into my car. For some of us.. thats not the point.
We are stupid enough to chase the dream.. lol. Any car restoration project (and thats what I refer to these as) is going to cost premium $$. I researched and figure I will probably put about 40,000.00 into my car by the time I am done (and thats probably a bit low).
No way I am going to recover that.. but anyone who buys one of these for an investment is fooling themselves.

Anyone who buys a brand new car for 80,000 and thinks they will get 80,000 for it after 5-10 years is also fooling themselves. I always assume the MKIII owners know all this.. lol.
I personally dont like MKIV's. the MKIII is my Japanese corvette.. and Im happy with it.. regardless of the money. I have owned 5 brand new vehicles straight out of the dealership and have lost far more money on those than I will on this.

you just have to keep in mind the costs and see if its what you REALLY want to do. The car isn't at the point in its life cycle that you can cheap out and watch it survive unless you are highly skilled at doing your own work and fabbing parts.

I warn anyone about that.. hehe. Sure.. nice car.. but it aint cheap. The sad part is that a lot of people who pick up a MKIII are under 21 years of age, still got schooling ahead and are short of cash and dont realise that the car they paid 3000.00 for is 3000.00 for a reason. Or course seeing as the OP has 54 pages of rebuild thread.. I assume he is fully aware.. :)

but dont toss me a MKIV simply becaues I could have bought one.. they have warts as well.

Very well said indeed!! For me, of course ya'll know this car means a lot to me. I fully intend on keeping it in the family at least for as long as I am alive. Yep. LOL. Of course the sad thing is I still have schooling ahead and am also short on cash -_-.

As for MK4's. I also do plan on getting one in the future once I have achieved my goals with the mk3. and then a Lamborghini Aventador... and then an Aston Martin DB9... wait. who am I kidding. :'(
