Anyone notice how you get much better gas mileage with 87 regular than premium?

I was getting 23 mpg freeway with premium, but now that it's $3.50 a gallon for the good stuff I started using regular and I've noticed the fuel economy jumped to 30 mpg freeway; this is with a T61.

Just thought I'd share.

Of course you're going to get better fuel economy, premium has been refined more, so it combusts more readily.

What you arnt keeping in mind, is that only running 87 octane increases detonation alot. If you're running any kind of decent boost, tis not good

So when you go get on it REAL HARD, and all of a sudden your engine makes funny noises...

Dont ask me :D

Yea. For the safety of his engine, he should probably just run premium... lol

If you can afford the big turbo, then you might as well afford the premium :)

If you plan on not racing and not boosting (well, no more than 1-3 psi part throttle) during the tank of 87 octane, you'll be fine. Just make sure you put +91 octane in when you feel frisky ;).

Or it resists combustion...

No, the reason you make more power (when tuned) off of higher octane is because it's resists pre-ignition better than lower octanes. You can raise the boost up more and tune closer to the edge with a higher octane.

It is because your driving habbits changed, or your math changed.

If you are broke enough to give a shit about the fuel mileage on your sports car (ahem..) , you are too broke to replace the motor after you detonate it and blow it up...

ah.. I just thought thier was less pre ignition, because it burned more completely and left behind less, because it was more refined and combustable? lol
