Lots of turbocharged 7M-GTE's around, but after looking carefeully at my 7M-GE with 164k miles on it - how easy would it be to supercharge this inline 6 beast?

I like the idea, principally because its driven by a drivebelt and doesnt require any exhaust manifold mods. Would the ECU handle a supercharger, and have there been any supercharged ones before?

Do you have deep pockets, a fat wallet, and a desire to make them both smaller? If the answer is yes, then go for it. It can be done, but if you don't have the ability to fabricate parts, or have the money to put into that kinda thing...

Turbo swaps are mucho easier, and it wouldn't require exhaust manifold mods, just buy a gte manifold, or an aftermarket gte header. Youd have to modify a lot more to put a blower on it.

i haven't herd of any, but i dont think it'd cost affective. and most suprachargers only put out 6-8 psi, but you could get a smaller pully. it would be a lot of fab work to mount, i'd think. and the ecu would fine as long as it is reading all the air. and i think you'd need alot of things from the turbo engine because forced induction is forced induction. it sure would be sweet to have absolutely no lag tho!

Yes. The mystery 7MGZE. I was gonna post that pic, but you beat me to it Eric. It's funny, it's the only picture out there.

at first i thought "hey there are no superchargers for our cars...." hah

I don't think there are, that guy probably just chose one based on size, and custom fabbed mounts, etc

Actually, it would be pretty inexpensive to supercharge a 7mGE. I supercharged an Escort GT by pulling the AC compressor and put an Eaton M62 in its place running off of the PS/AC belt belt. There is plenty of room for an M62 in place of either the A/C or PS unit (more room on the AC compressor side. ) You can find Eaton 62's on ebay all day for under $300.00 off of Mercedes Kompressor engines. Intake and exhaust flanges are easy to get for $20-$30 and then custom piping. The most expensive part of the whole operation would be having a custom bracket made.

I come from a land down under
Early on I bought a "Terra Charger" a locally made positive displacment blower but the reality of fitting it in while keeping all the Mk3 creature comforts killed the project.

I'm a big fan of Roots style blowers due to their power delivery and back in the day a 700hp capable single Turbo on a 3.0L motor was a laggy horrible mess!

The GT series has changed all that though!

Behold, photoshop! Besides the obvious disparity between the engine and the blurred background, where is the intake manifold in the picture? And what is the hotwire mass airflow sensor on the intake doing there? When our car doesnt use one.

That pic originally had a white Cressida photoshopped into the background. I see it has been removed. The only thing that could be, is that blower was mocked up to see how it would fit or look. But that is a blower kit, and it doesn't go on the 7MGE.

I am not saying anybod here did anything. That pic has been around a long time.

But take a good look at the intake. Where is it? Best case scenario, somebody removed it and mocked up the blower to see how close it is. And not very close is the answer. Where does the throttle body go?

I thought that piece at the end of the pipe from the back of the charger was the tb. The grey tb sized part. You say it's the maf tho? Could it not be a tb with the tps on the top?

I am very for the idea of a mechanical blower on a 7M. And the GE does not have fuel cut. Power enrichment could come from an HKS VPC. It would need the chip for the MR2 Turbo. It has the same vane airflow meter as the 7MGE.

How bout the latest version of the maft-pro for the ge and the speed density harness, with the timing monitor.Sounds like a winner to me
