I have a 1989 nonturbo supra. My roommate finished swapping a gte into his 88 about a year ago. I intended on waiting to get out of school to swap a 7mgte into mine, but shortly after riding in his for the first time I changed my mind. I plan on staying stock for the most part besides full 3 inch exhaust and blitz dd bov. The block, head and crank all came back from the machine shop about a week ago so assuming I have all of the right parts and bolts then it shouldn't take too long to build. For some extra comfort I bought ARP rod bolts, head bolts and a metal head gasket. Anyway I will update this thread more as the build/swap progresses.
First wave of parts came in this past february
Got a few more a month or two later
crappy camera phone pic...cleaned up the turbo a bit
Went ahead and mocked up the gauges so it would be one less thing to do once it goes in. I left them in for a day or two and pulled them back out. It was too ricer to leave them in until the engine is done.
Decided to see how it would look to paint the lower intake mani black. Seems like it will look nice
Painted the valve covers a flat black also
New npr 20 over pistons
Block before the machine shop
Head after the machine shop
Block after machine shop
On the engine stand and ready to go
Polishing things up before the crank goes in
Crank in
Head with cams installed after all of the awesome valve shim calculations
I will keep this updated. Should be going friday to continue.
