yeah 400 is pretty easy to get in a MKIII. its trying to keep up with people like duane, ron, IJ, knwate, etc that is hard, lol. but then again I went the easy way out and went 2j, eh to each there own. 400hp 1g for the win, lol

but I do have to agree though, 1000hp would be fun on a drag strip but it would be a pain on the street. I liked a daily driver with 400hp, that was fine with me...for a while trust me you'll always want more. once you get 400 you'll want 500 etc etc etc. you have to try to find that fine line between streetablility and lag

i dont always see it as HP, for some reason you see alot of guys layin big hp but less tq. Supras are suposed to be tq monsters. My supra puts out 360whp and 430wtq @17lbs of boost on a ct26 62-1. Eveb thoe you see these big power #'s too i see alot of high 1/4 mile times for that kind of power. My car last year went 12.9 with a lexus AFM boost controller and a 62-1 and a tire thats it. I see guys with way more mods than that, that are still in the mid low 13's. Im currently doing a FULL build. Forged block and 1mm oversisde valves, full valvetrain cams and all over the next 7-10 months. With a bigger turbo like a 70mm inducer i hope to put down 550-650whp sometime late next year.

Rough conversion here puts me at 700+ ft/lbs (over 900nm's last time on the rollers)

you (and poss others) might find this calculator useful.

http://to4r.com/calcs/pwtq.php

what ive found on bigger turbos is they usually have lower tq numbers compared to hp but often hold it flat to redline. most of the smaller turbos (such as the ct upgrade) will peak quick then fall off. this is just a general statement, of course a lot of things come into play.

I daily drive mine at probably 350 rwhp, maybe a little more. Why would you need more than that? I can smoke almost any mustang around, and that's all we have here in Alabama. I couldn't use six hundred if I had it. I love the way my car feels right now. It's there if I need it, but I hardly ever have a chance to get on it. All mustangs fear me here.........................:naughty:

I haven't found a vette on the road willing to race yet, and I've beat every srt that's tried me. All races were either on a closed course or at the track..............lol

why is it that everyone thinks that 1000hp is not streetable? anyone who thinks that 4 figure HP numbers arent streetable need to do a little more research.

there are ALOT Of people who make close to 1000hp and more while having FULLY streetable cars with street tires, license plates, air conditioning, power steering, full interiors and stereo systems. Cowboy bebop, steel city supra, ryan woon, keen woon, larry prebis, marko, matt scranton, philly single, and many others make over 800rwhp or so and street-drive their cars with NO problem.

having a turbo that spools by 4800rpm is not a problem at all when you consider these people who make REAL power on Big turbos rev their motors to 9000rpm and more. making full boost by 1/2 thru your rpm range is phenominal, even if it doesn mean revving to 4800 for power. if you are suffering from Lag, you aint driving it right.

and 400hp in a 3800lb car is NOT that impressive. lets be serious for a second. 13.flat is not impressive anymore. 12.8 on Drag radials isnt that impressive either... not when you contrast it against cars that run 1.2 60' on street tires and 3600 lbs and trap 160mph in their sleep. yeah, it takes a shit load of money, but thats no reason to beleive that 400hp and low-13 second and high 12-second passes are Good. especially there aer more and more cars out tehre hitting that 400hp mark.

hey, if you guys are perfectly satisfied with 400hp and high 12's... thats fine, itll just make me look that much better.

also, beating mustangs is nothing to brag about. those cars suck on the street and they are done by 100mph. all it takes is bolt-ons and a big shot to make a mustang go down the 1/4 fast.

all i gotta say is... beating 600cc bikes (2002-current) is where things start getting good.

ive never dynoed my car. in fact, ive never ever built a car start-to-finish for myself. all the time and energy i spend working on cars, ends up being for other people... by the time it comes to working on my own car, im burned out and lack the desire to do anything.

ill strap it down w/ the stock turbo in the near future and see what i can wring out of it before i throw on the 38GK and let it eat on some C16 or C23.

dang, dont work on your car???

i have blood sweet and tears into her, almost like sex in somes ways :aigo:

the best my boat has ran is 13.7 im dam proud of that head gasket blowing run, i was running wayyyy rich, and am still learning how to achive a proper tune. it takes alot of time and money, and at this, i can say i have removed and put back every bolt on my car thats ever been taken off, so i cant make clean welds, but im a hell of a mechanic, and for building a car for my 19th year of my life, i am dam proud of my achivement, one year's gone by, and ive scrapped 2 seconds off the stock ability of this car, and if i get techinical, possible 5 seconds being this car was n/a from where she started,

so 150+ horse ive added in a year to a poor' ol n/a body, this car's never been quicker, and only seems to get faster.. so what if some of these mkiii owners cant race to well but some can, i dont under stand why this things get such bad 1/4 mile times..

but i guess whats even worse, i forgot why i started this post.. .

that reminds me of the geico commercial w/ the caveman.

but really, if thats what makes you happy, go for it!

but i still think 400rw+ is impressive. no it wont dominate everything on the street and no it isnt rocket science to make that much power. but taking a car that makes 170-190rw stock then making more than double with just bolt on parts with a stock motor is impressive to me.

either way, my car is built to make me happy. if im happy with 200rw or 600rw, then thats my decision. and thats what matters. not if other people think its cool or what i should have done or that im weaksauce, etc.

I think everything should be put into more perspective.
1000whp, even if it's streetable, come on man! We're MKIII owners. we're poor dudes! If we had money for 1000whp we'd not be here. (except for some owners/users here :p )

The MKIV guys put thousands of dollars into their cars, and let some other guy do the job. Is that impressive?
I know more about my car than most MKIV people over at supraforums do know about their own.

I think it's very well damn impressive that people who are on a tight budget do not only keep their 17 year old car running, but are also tuning it to make over 450whp on engines that are said by dark voices to be less than anywhere near 'good' for tuning.

And they do all of the work, or most of it, themselves.

I have to agree with others, 400rwhp or crank is awsome in a car that had only 190rwhp to begin with. Even if I had the money to build a 1000hp car I wouldnt, not with a 3 liter turbo motor anyway.
Im sure that 1000hp mkivs are fun at full throttle on the high way but for everyday life I think 400-550rwhp would do me fine. Im probably around 400rwhp at 17+psi and it makes for a fun car even at this weight, but different things for different people.

Funny how this thread went from "have you heard of this website" to "how much horsepower is enough." I'm just starting with the Supra so I can't add my own experience. But, I like the idea that too fast is never fast enough. There is always a little room for improvement; isn't that why we are constantly tinkering with our cars?

Of course, "fast enough" might actually be a finite value for some people. :)
