After reading the posts I am guessing this race is a "fastest car wins" heads up type race. Not a "drag race" with times and dial in’s with handicaps. I would then have to vote that if this is a fastest car wins type race then I think it does not matter. In a heads up race I would say that the person that has the most invested in his 7M will beat the other 7M's and the one that has made his MK3 into a 900hp car then there is your winner. If I had the cash and put a rocket engine in a mk3 and did a 8sec 1/4 mile then I would win! :) There is no easy way to make categories that will be "FAIR".

Just my .002 cents either way it would be fun to watch a bunch of supras at a drag strip. Who cares who wins. Im married so I guess I gave up on winning things ;)

I am cast from the MKIII crowd forever, and the MKIV guys never accept my MKIII for what it is. It would be called a bastard at best, and forget to know a place among other enthusiasts because you upgraded the entire engine...?

I voted no.

Since when is a "Drag Race" only ET racing?

drag race - a race between two or more automobiles starting from a standstill, the winner being the car that can accelerate the fastest.

drag race - n. - A race between two cars to determine which can accelerate faster from a standstill.

In those BIG drag races you have different classes with specific rules that are meant to keep the competitors in that class close. Take a look at some of the "Real" drag class rules sometime. They don't write those rules because little timmy can't keep up with johnny and wanted his own class - although it would be fun to see a race with a jet car vs little timmy on his BigWheel. :)

So many racers make all of these obscure little rules so that they can be a winner - Fastest 6-speed, no nitrous, stock wing, full interior with AC and radio, blue, Sport roof, leather interior, stock IC, 18" rims, street tires, from 85007.

Even when racing ET (bracket, handicap, etc) the cars are split into different classes to keep the competitions closer. Why not have the jet car running against little timmy on his BigWheel for the ET class? timmy will get a HUGE head start and could actually beat the jet car.

Can a 7M powered car beat a highly modified 2J powered car? Sure. The only thing holding the 7M back is the owner. And then there's the whole "anything can happen" arguement. I was at a drag event recently that had Supras racing Supras. Two of the groups had Supras that were running very consistently and FAST/Quick. Those cars made it easily to the final round of their class only to trip the red light on the last run.

I think there should be a handicap based on how much money was spent on the car :biglaugh:
Plus, it usually goes something like this:
$10,000 MK3 = 12 sec Supra
$80,000 MK4 = 12 sec Supra

Hey Arron, you mean 3500.00 = 12 sec mk3

You explained it better then I did. I ment that without the ET aspect of the race there are too many other things people could complain about. I did not even think of the red-light issue. I guess I am just thinking there is more driver skill needed in an ET race then a heads up race. Both are fun to do and watch. Once you dont red light in a heads up race you just go as fast as you can till the end. With ET there is more to deal with. I wanna see the jet vs BigWheel race! that would be cool...

I am not saying by any means that a 7M won't beat a 2jz.. I am sure there on people on both ends that can agree to that..

I guess there is just too many factors to determine what is a fair race..
That's what I hate about "Pinks"!!!

"My car will whip your cars A$$".. Then the loudmouth loses by 6 cars and then wants the other guy to give him 14 lengths.. WTH... I would tell that guy to bring his car back when it is up to the challenge or either STH.. UP!! That way I could save money in gas and go get me a Krystal Burger!!! :icon_bigg

somebody call the whannnbulance, its all well and good you put a 2jz into your mk3, I would love to be able to do that too but don't start whining when people don't wanna run ya, lets face it a 1JZ has about as much bootom end torque as a rotary and the 7M has to be pretty high hp to play with ya and at least make a good run, yea the mk4's will stomp ya pretty good unless ya have a decent power advantage over them.

Basically quit whining, you should have seen it coming and be happy you got a badass mk3 that most mk3's don't wanna run, theres always vettes............

The only drag race is heads up, run what you got, if they have nitrous and you don't then don't set up the race, if you already have you better hope you can still beat them on the bottle, lengths are for ricers.
