ok, seems i get that reply alot and its driving me nuts. i know a search will get me some answers IF im willing to wade through 100s of posts. the info is certainly in there but its burried and often out very dated.

why people keep taking the time to reply with the old 'just search', instead of answering the question or ignoring the thread is beyond me. this whole forum thing is for discussion, not a database of info to search. if you want to treat it as a database then replying to every thread with 20 sec search is doing no good to that cause. 'bhg' and inside jokes just help make things even harder to search through.

im sure if you search hard enough basically any question you can come up with has been asked about the supra. so if thats the case might as well end the forum as theres no thing left to discuss, just search?

i however know alot of questions get asked Alot and often. if your a regular and see it you do get tired of it, at the same time you Dont have to reply. ignore and move on, theres always someone willing to answer and discuss something that might be old to You.

on top of all that, stuff changes all the time. just because a topic was discussed to death 6 months ago doesnt mean theres not new info about it. also, someone who was not a member when the original discussion took place might have more info to add. you cant realistically reopen all the old topics and add new info, you just start a new topic if it comes up.

Searching benifits you because you can see a few different ways that the subject was approached rather than starting a whole other approach. If the work was already done, by several people asking the question and hundreds answering, then why do people need to take the time out of their day to type up an answer for you since you were too lazy to take a few minutes to search for the things they probably posted in 3 threads already? When people say "just search", that is a good indication that there IS already great info on your subject on the forum.

i always search before posting, as i said though theres always new info. just because someone does post an old question doesnt mean they didnt search first.

also, like i said before sometimes you get 100s of results for a simple search. it gets to be a pain digging through all those post to find what you need. its much easier to just ask again and get a quick answer.

i would have to agree with the man i have asked, searched and just today after doing 15min of searching everyday for a week found a picture of thewater temp sensor so i can find out why my water temp gauge wasnt working. I wont even drive my car til i find out why its not working because i dont want to blow a head gasket even if it is a HKS stopper. as long as you search first there should be no reason why you cant post again. Search first then post because even though it may have been talked about already doesnt mean there isnt more to learn. just my .02

shouldn't this be in off-topic?

don't you think you're being a little selfish saying that you're too lazy to read through 100 posts to find your answer? If there's 100 posts on your topic, then thats a pretty good indication that your question has probably been beat dead, and the "old timers" are tired of disscussing it. So by you being lazy and opening a new thread about an old topic that has been beat dead just to get a quick answer, you are making this problem worse. Because now, when the next guy comes along with the same question and uses the search, he now finds 101 posts and so on and on and on. Besides, isn't this discussed in the forum rules that you agreed to when you joined? To use the search so you don't piss anyone off. Not that I'm pissed off by any means and I hope you don't take this post the wrong way. I'm not trying to single you out by saying "you this" or "you that", but in general terms meaning people that do as you have decribed.

so of the guys who hang out here alot (myself included) get tired of seeing the same thread over and over. especially if its something thats a poorly worded or dumb question.
"what spark plugs do you use?"
"i have rod knock, what are my options?"
"uh ho bhg! wheres a good place to get it fixed/how hard is it to do?"
"my car seems to be running poorly/car wont start . how do i fix it?"
"what oil do you guys run?"

most of these basic questions can be answered by a fairly quick search and the material hasnt changed all that much in the past 6 months or year. check out the link in supracentral's sig about how to deal with the old guys/how to ask good questions.

Correct, and I'm assuming this is about the "oil filters" thread, in which he was asking which filters we use, but not our opinions on which filters are better.
The thread was wierd, he got his answers, but they weren't how he wanted to hear them.

Unfortunately, the Search function is only as good as the terms used.

There's a reason that every single post on this site is saved and browseable. You are sitting on a gold mine of information, all you have to do is give a little bit of effort. Browsing through 100's of posts? Even with bad search terms, it should take all of 5 minutes to scan through and open the threads that look semi-relevant, then another 3 to see if they are talking about anything useful.

I was going to follow up with something, but SLO already pretty much said it.

Title of this thread should be 'I'm to lazy'

Oh well, I'll post it anyway.

New discussion is always welcome. In fact, covering old material is new
threads is inevitable and expected. But you have already expressed your
laziness and that is what gets people upset.

You are so busy you can't be bothered with intelligently searching for your
solution so you expect others not to get upset, at you, for bothering them
for the answer they've already posted in multiple threads.

I don't holler search at the drop of a hat but when you make an issue of it
and admit you you're to lazy to put a little thought into it then you get no
sympathy from me.

It's kinda like school. Sure, the teacher(s) could just give you all the answers, but you wouldn't learn "how" or "why" that is the answer. If you have to read it and hunt for it, not only do you get the answer, but also gain the knowledge behind the answer.

Exactly This is what i was trying to say that old topics can be brought up again but if you find what your looking for without asking then no point to open another discussion. This is why even after little searches everyday i still didnt start a new tread to ask what sensor was the one i was looking for. and i did after sometime find what i was looking for on my own.

i like how im labeled as lazy because i dont want to dig through 100s of posts. the same people saying im lazy are the ones that dont want to have to answer questions again? seems like its the same kinda thing to me, one group doesnt want to search one group doesnt want to re-answer. if both just go about their business everyone would be happy.

also, i do search before i post as i said before and before that. everyone acts like i(and others) dont search at all. when i do, doesnt mean i dont want to ask the questions Again.

I research a lot on here. I have a very limited number of threads. The search works 99 times out of 100 for me. Browsing through the faqs gets answers too. A lot of the threads that are made day to day are un nessecary in my opinion.

I just wonder:
If you couldn't find the answer to your question in over 100 threads, provided you were usind adequate search terms -
Why would you want to ask your question on this forum, as the posters couldn't be very bright :biglaugh:
Unless you had such a unique question. In that case I wouldn't see how you would get the 'search' reply.
