It’s been a while since I started this thread & my supra has been idled most of the summer but I wanted to finish it up and post my resolution to the coolant leak problem around By-Pass hose #6 and the water hose joint (union). After a bit of more in-depth investigating I decide that something...
Yes, the one under the tstat housing. The camera option is a good idea. Also, thanks for the tip on cleaning the existing one up and reinstalling it. I am suspicious that the culprit is crud build up around the end of the pipe that is preventing a good seal. Looks like fixing up the existing one...
Thanks for getting back to me jetjock. You are right shot gunning isn't the way to go. I need to get the Supra in a location where I can tear into is and let it sit until I get it repaired. I am think that I will need to pull the water outlet housing since it looks like the water pump is in the...
Hello All,
I had an small seeping leak in the region of By-Pass hose #6 so I tightened the worm clamps on it and that just made it worse. Thus I went ahead and replaced by-pass hose #6 (P/N 16283-42010) and replaced the worm clamps with tension clamps (P/N 90467-21010) hoping it would solve...
Well there is some good news!
1st regarding concerns with the cam cap on the exhaust side - what you are seeing is a bit of packing that was not cleaned off prior to reinstalling the cam. Don’t know why the shop didn’t clean it up when they put the head back together. Anyway, I cleaned that...
Thanks for the responses! You guys are going to need some kleenex cuz your either gonna laugh or cry when you get finished reading this...
a) No, the front timing plate was not machined. The head was not shaved - I had a valve job done and they replaced the exhaust side camshaft as it was...
Here's a bit of an update on the leak.
After I ran the engine for about 2 minutes and got a lot of oil flowing out I removed the timing belt, intake & exhaust camshaft timing pulleys then timing belt cover # 2. What I found is what you all have been suggesting - that the likely cause is at...
Just to relieve your worries the 7M-GE's are non-intereference engines - I had the same concerns while doing my 1st BHG job (BTW still in progress).
Checkout this TSRM link: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=EM&P=3
Follow AJ'S 88NA's advice - it is pretty much what I...
Thanks for the input so far...
Just reviewed the TSRM and it does even indicate that one should place packing at the front of the head - I guess I picked up on that from all the posts in these forums. I probably didn't put enough on..
I will check the camshaft seals 1st and go from there...
Hi All,
It has been some time since my last post. You all have been posting some great advice so keep it up!
I am just finishing up my 1st BHG job after some months of procrastinating.
I have a 86.5 NA and have gotten the vehicle to start and run pretty well - never left the garage yet...
Thanks for the and the words of encouragement and tips on putting the head back on. Getting the head may be a bit tricky unless I get a friend to help - my kids aren't strong enough to be of much help. The ARP headbolts came in yesterday so now I need to find time to make it happen. I really...
Hey all - sorry for being out of the loop - been sick and dealing with the rest of my life. I’m a little league coach and it’s the busy season for that.
I see there are several suggestions that the block also be machined/serviced at this point. I was hoping that I could away with just...
cuel,
I'm in the middle of a BHG job. Heads at the shop now so I'm trying to get things squared away in the meantime. I like your suggestion about running water through the coolant ports on the block so I'm thinking that I'll crank up my power washer and do it. A question though -Will all...
Just checked out the vasupras.com site. Thanks for the tip. Nice to see that
there are so many Supra lovers close by. I'll join the site when I have more
time.
The BHG job is still in progress got the head off and it's at Dunkum's right
now. Still having a time getting the crankshaft...
CRE,
Thanks for the info I will try to be wary when shopping for the hosing. Sorry
for missing the earlier posts regarding vacuum lines. I'll try to keep you all
posted.
Hi All,
Started my BHG repair on my 86.5 non-turbo N/A all stock ~135K. Got the
head off- running into a few problems but getting some good info from the
posts here and on some other forms. Thanks to all.
I have a few different questions so I'll break it into a couple of seperate posts...
Also not sure what yuou mean by a new build thread - new to this forum
stuff. Know computers pretty well just not familar/comfortable about being
social with them.:dunno:
I live right off of Warwick - close to CNU and in the middle of the new
road widening project. The Deep Creek area back behind Dean and Don's
if you're familiar with that area. The photo is about 4 years old from
when I 1st got the car. Unfortunately I don't have the time or $$ to
keep it...
Finally getting around to posting a pic of my Supra. Sorry for the delay...
down with the flu and getting started on the BHG job - praying that I don't
screw it up - going OK so far. I'll start working on getting the cam shaft,
timing belts and sprockets off tonight (I hope). Any advice...
