Hi Supra Lovers,

I'm Angelo. I live in the Hampton/Newport News areas of Virginia and I've been subscribed to this forum for about 6 months but have never posted a message so I felt it would be appropriate to intro myself before jumping in. Been reading the posts and getting lots of good advice and tips from the community so thanks to all of you for helping me out.

I've got a 86.5 Supra N/T (7MGE), all stock, w/ ~135K miles that I've had or about 4 years. I'm the 2nd owner - the 1st was my old boss who babied it - garage kept, dealer serviced regularly, etc. - a real car enthusiast. I'm not so well off so mine sits out in the weather most of the time and I've done some small repairs myself (water pump, radiator, plus, wires, tune-stuff) and consider my self an amateur.

Lately I've run into some problems with coolant boiling out of my reservoir - did some replacements as suggested in some of the posts (new water pump, radiator cap, top radiator hose, new thermostat, verified fanclutch okay, burped system). I thought I had the problem squared away any was praying it wasn't a BHG but after a short trip to the grocery store my my worst fears were confirmed. After coming out of the store I went to turn it over - 1st try nothing, 2nd try "THUNK!", 3rd try starts but running like crap. Start down the road and smoke everywhere out of the exhaust. Temperature gauge red lines, pull over - strong scent of coolant - DANG! Well now I'm positive I've got a BHG.

So here we go with the questions a) Do I take it to someone to fix the BHG or do it myself? Like I said I'm pretty much an amateur. b) Where can I find an information/overviews/suggestions about doing this job?, c) Where can I get required parts?, d) If I do the job what are the pitfalls/traps?, d) What other things should I do or check while I'm doing this job? I'd appreciate any guidance that you all can provide.

Also since I'm pretty new to this Is there a guide to the acronyms (especially regarding parts) that are used in this forum, etc.?

Thanks and take care,
Angelo

The main acronym you need to know here is.......
piitb= put it in the butt

If you conquer that one, you will be alright...............:naughty:

Hopefully some of your local supra owners can come to your rescue and help you with your bhg. If you have a good set of tools, you should be able to do it with some help. I wish you the best of luck, and when I type lol, it means lots of love and not laugh out loud............good luck

thanks to all for the welcome!

Nice to meet fellow Supra fans close to where I'm at(oscolivar1 & dairdevil3453), and southwest VA (Clip) (Its beautiful country out that way!) and one from a long way away (LilMissMkIII in Australia) (Love that screen name!) .
Thanks for the support on doing the HG job. I'm leaning towards doing it
myself - hopefully it will go well. I'll try to post a picture(s) soon. Maybe some of the HG job too!

Thanks for the start on the acronyms. Found a pretty complete list of
them in the intro section of the TSRM last night that is also helpful.

Finally getting around to posting a pic of my Supra. Sorry for the delay...
down with the flu and getting started on the BHG job - praying that I don't
screw it up - going OK so far. I'll start working on getting the cam shaft,
timing belts and sprockets off tonight (I hope). Any advice appreciated!

where do u live in newport news??
i have family down near denbigh road, near warwick and jacksonville rd.
I live right off of Warwick - close to CNU and in the middle of the new
road widening project. The Deep Creek area back behind Dean and Don's
if you're familiar with that area. The photo is about 4 years old from
when I 1st got the car. Unfortunately I don't have the time or $$ to
keep it up like the previous owner...but it's in still in pretty good shape.
As I said it's all stock.
