The gear inside of it has a 9" diameter. The whole housing is a lot larger with all of the re-enforcement and such. It's designed to be a load-bearing member of a solid rear axle, as opposed to just a ball to hold the gearing like on the Supra.
funny you mention knock sensors, I just threw out a good set I could have shipped to you to swap out.
The sensor is basically a microphone, I suppose a multimeter could tell you if the sensor is completely dead, but I don't think it will tell you if the sensor is flaky.

Interesting. I noticed that the lower radiator hose fitting on the water pump housing was different, as well as the low-pressure hydro fitting on the pump itself, causing the high-pressure JZA70 line to hit it.

you should see some of the other garages on that site. Those guys are nuts.
