Usually electrolytic capacitors only fail if the working voltage rating is exceeded, but age and/or high temperatures can also cause a problem. I know it does get very hot in the dash of a Supra, but I'm not sure what causes the failures, probably a combination of things.
IIRC I heard there...
I didn't have a camera, it looked just like a 7m crank, but a just a tiny bit smaller. :icon_wink
I am going to do this as a kit if I can get a hold of more 5m cranks. The new shop I'm using has no problem doing the job. It came out so nice that you wouldn't be able to tell the snout was...
I just fixed 4 ecu's this week alone, with caps leaking on the pc board, and since the electrolyte is acidic, it ate through the traces on some of the boards causing major problems. I am going to start offering a repair service for them, it's really becomming a big problem for a lot of people...
YES! I got the crank back and took it to the machine shop. I have all the measurements for my custom pistons now, so I will be placing an order for my pistons on Monday.
I had all the aluminum parts for the engine powder coated black.
How about the people making more power who thought they were getting a clutch that would handle it? My car was making 421whp on an upgraded pressure plate and stock disk, and I didn't get harsh engagement that would make my whole car "thump". I also didn't get the accelerated wear on my...
Air Temp and Knock Sensor codes, that would do it for sure.
You might need a new afm, do the test procedure on it with an ohm meter.

Knock sensor is usually a broken wire, but the knock sensors can also crack...
The 2 door JZ powered cars are rear sump. The 4 door JZ cars are front sump.
#1stunna, it seems like with your budget you really have no other option then to get the Soarer engine and learn as you go. It sounds like you have already decided to go that route, and you're just looking for...
Experience is expensive, but it can pay for itself in time.
I agree with IJ that having someone to help you when you are starting out is invaluable. You can only learn so much from the forums. You learn so much more if you supliment what you hear on the forums with book reading and hands on...
All the companies start out with a stock pressure plate, but all the HONEST companies heat treat the spring. We tested the spring pressure of two pressure plates from XTD and they were the same as stock, untouched other then paint.
Most Soarer clips have an automatic trans. Most importers play dumb and sell people Soarer clips when they know it's for a Supra, which is why good deals don't always turn out to be good deals. Like annoyingrob mentioned, you could buy the Soarer trans and swap it for a Supra trans and make a...
It was caused by the deck surface not being flat. The only other Toyota engine I know of that was as bad at blowing headgaskets was the 3vze, which had a "service campaign", which should have been a full blown recall along with the 7M. No other engine experience can prepare you for the problems...
I am going to put one in my prerunner, because it has a wide flat fuel cell, and in certain situations (jumping the truck or hard corners) the pickup would not be submerged in fuel. On the stock Supra gas tank, I don't think that is a problem. If you were worried about it just keep a half tank...
