The ECU grounds are 3 if I remember right and connect on the drivers side under the intake manifold on a stud. They will reach the starter without any problem...not very heavy wire.

Double check the timing marks # 1 piston at TDC, both timing marks on the cams lined up, rotor pointing at #1 spark plug wire, and the crank mark at "0".
Good job...I would say being able to adjust the bias would definatly help, I've had mine out on a track and wish I could have had an adjustment.

If it was running fine then I would be looking at something like damaged wire, loose connection, possibly timing belt, shit like that.
Rod bearing failure can be also caused, most with the 7M are, low oil level. All it takes is a couple of auto-X's without a quart over the full mark and....
Rod bearing starting to go, alot of times is a marked decrease in oil pressure, when it goes a big decrease in pressure and most times...
