first things first. you wanna make sure your engine is healthy before you do any mods to it. once you've got that taken care of then you can mod. im doing a basic build right now. i'm fully rebuilding my motor, stock. then i'm gonna add a full 3" turbo back exhaust and an intake. after i break...
well i got my first two sets of cams from two engines i picked up. one had a BHG and the other had a dead cylinder. so for the first set i guess it makes sense for the cams to be a little messed up, but for the second one i dont know.
there was a thread about this same thing in the 7mge section. it started a few days ago, i would suggest reading that. and yeah its not a good idea to cut your stock springs, just read the thread in the other section
IJ: thanks for the info. if it comes to that i guess i'll have to do that. when you say cap face do you mean the bottom of it, where it mounts to the head?
if this shop doesnt work out then i'm gonna find me a shop that has worked on 7m's. i should of done that in the first place.

if the polished my cams and they weren't in spec could i adjust the cam caps to bring the clearances back to spec? does the TSRM show how to adjust them?
thats what i thought, that this was normal wear. when i looked at them again it does look like a polish could do the trick. i told the shop to go ahead and polish them and see if they are within spec. i'll see on friday how they turned out.
they're going to see if they can get them within spec. if not then i have to find yet another set. like i said the guys at the shop think they are bad. one did have deep scratches on the first journal but the other was not as bad.
thats what i was thinking too. i've never heard of anyone else having this problem. the shop was going to try to polish one of the "bad" intake cams. im gonna go by there today and see if they worked on them or not. thanks for the help.
so i'm in the middle of my rebuild and this is the only thing holding me back right now. i've gone trough three sets of cams and only one cam was in good condition with a light polish. all the other ones have some deep scratches on the first few journals. the lobes are fine but the journals have...
