I say see if you can get it running well for cheap, if not you can part it out and make some money. I've got a 95 2wd pickup and it's been great to me so far.
I've got a 67mm 1jz project in the works, the DFW's about to get a lot more interesting :)
Great runs you two, I thought your car felt really danged healthy Jon. Gotta love a sunday drive in mexico.
No real advantage with doing a GTE bottom end, it's pretty overrated imo. The GE internals are tough as nails and the stock compression is pretty low to begin with. If I were you I'd be saving pennies for a 1jz motorset and throw the 2j ge bottom end in with it. Slightly higher compression and a...
Looks pretty rough, I'd pass unless you knew the rough running was an easy fix like a plug wire or bad injector. I have trouble believing the 96k miles, i'd carfax it for sure.
I can understand him wanting to wait for the paint to cure, I'd just roll by some day and get him to affirm that he will repaint the car to the correct color. Any wise person would've painted it all at once, metallic paints are finicky no matter what. His shop took the risk and lost the gamble...
You're not missing anything, you're just using a crap socket on a bolt that's torqued from the factory to 180 ft. lbs. and is who-knows-how stuck. Get a good impact socket and use the starter bump trick and you'll be fine.
I had the same thing happen to me. Instead of lifting the tranny to carry it I rocked it back and forth on its bellhousing and put the tranny in to find it locked in gear, just pulled the tailhousing off with it still in the car and popped the gear back into the proper spot.
I think that's half the appeal for me. Same with the Mk3, you've got to love it for what it is instead of comparing it with today's styling trends. The mk4 definitely got the love when it comes to a timeless design, but there are all kinds of different appeal.
Congrats on the new driver! I'm...
The cage looks really really nice, good work. The only part I'd be unsure about is visibility past the gauge pod/front bar, seems like it might interfere a little bit, but somehow I don't think this car is going to see too much street duty.
Added weight due to safety/luxury features, government crash standards, revised epa guidelines, consumers wanting more power, etc. Rumor has it that Honda will have a new hybrid in the next year or two that will get close to 70mpg, we'll see how that goes.
Their list is pretty jacked up. A Civic and a Prius are pretty much exactly the same size, in no way is the Prius a midsize car. Also, if the Prius is midsize then the corolla and matrix should be midsize, and the matrix gets 25 city 31 highway which trumps the P.O.S. VW. I'll agree that the...
LOL at the "Brack Box". Reminds me of kim jong il from team america. If it's throwing a map sensor code check your vacuum line to the map sensor for restrictions and doublecheck continuity from the map sensor connector to the ecu plugs. If that checks out and you've got a known good map sensor...
I think Mk4 owners are just sick of Mk3 owners asking them what they do for a living.
I also think that the majority of Mk3 owners have a complex and refuse to be good-natured when somebody makes a joke. Heck, my vanity plate makes fun of my own car, it's TOYLET.
Have a sense of humor for once.
I've pulled a 36 hour stint and had three energy drinks in the process, time kinda slowed down and it seemed like I was moving in slow motion, pretty weird stuff.
Polished aluminum will never have the same sheen as chrome, sorry to break it to you. You can do an amazing polishing job and make it look fantastic, but at the end of the day you'll still be able to spot the difference easily between a polished part and a chromed part. That picture you posted...
