I only just saw this thread now but i'm glad i've found it. I had heard a sniff that John was campaigning the car again and watched all the TV footage of the Historic meeting at EC in Sept but didnt get to see the Supra :(, now I know why!
John, I noticed you said you needed a diff ratio that...
I pulled my dash a few weeks ago as im having some wiring done. Someone tell me, is the plug for the turn signal switch located in that loom that you have to disconnet to get the dash out? My turn signals arent working now (im thinking maybe because ive unplugged that loom) but I just want to...
FWIW, you can get the bearings from driftmotion for 52 per corner. You are better off doing both sides at once for peace of mind. I am doing this soon and will take the hub off myself (because its easy) and take them to a suspension shop to do the bearings (as they know what they're doing). TRSM...
what are you running on the front of your car?
depending on what kind of driving you are doing, you may just get away with a lesser pad in the rear that starts to go away when it gets hot. otherwise upgrade your fronts first and or fit a wilwood brake pressure proportioning valve.
Thanks for those pics, looks very sturdy. Do you still run the brake booster? I was going to try mine un-assisted for better modulation and feel. You guys are lucky over there with the cops it seems! Ill be over in Chicago in July/August so ill shoot you a PM :)
1000lbs is pretty firm but I dont mind a harsher ride also, puts hair on your chest! What do the cops say about a full cage when they see it, or arent they big on that in IL? I'm in Aus most of the time but spend about a month in Chicago each year as my fiancée is originally from there but it'd...
by no preload, do you mean long enough to allow the LCAs to hang as they wish with the car jacked up (or parallel with the swaybar when the suspension is loaded)?
Old mate is long gone, haven't spoken to him in many years, he sold the car and it was later stolen by some Abos and never seen again afaik. mallala is an absolute c**t on brakes, supposedly the harshest in australia, successive long stops and a short lap so no time for cool down. I was using...
There was a guy in SA who did quite a bit of track work with his JZA70 at full weight at mallala with stock sized braking equipment and seemed to go alright although I never asked him specifically about the brakes. If you went with some DBA4000 rotors and braided lines and some good pads and...
people say they have been able to achieve around 3 deg of negative camber with the stock control arms but it involves slamming the absolute fuck out of your coilovers which is not conducive to a good roll centre so any benefit to handling is lost anyway. So yeah, I would say the upper camber...
If you want aggressive alignment, but dont have any height adjustment, id look into some adjustable front upper control arms. Otherwise the most worthwhile other upgrade is a pair of aftermarket sway bars front and rear with stronger end links.
and brakes!!!!!
I wouldnt say no problem. 11 +16 is going to hang shitloads. You wont be able to run much tyre with that set up, maximum 265 at the rear I think. Front wont be easy either but lots of stretch and rolling/pulling of your gaurds.
FWIW you can use any brembo rear caliper from Evo 5-9 but I guess you guys never got Evo 5s and 6s in the states so probably most of them are from 7-9s.
People say upt to 3 degrees negative at the front and 2.5 negative at the rear but you're car would have to be pretty low to achieve this with the stock control arms. What offsets are your 11 inch wheels at the back? You'll be cutting it pretty fine on the inside.
^^^ correct I want them to correct bumpsteer. I'm not fussed about steering angle as its not a drift car. Already looking under my car (which isnt "that" low at the front). the tie rods are on stupid angles and its not right. I'm hoping for a bit more control and feel through the steering wheel...
