Looking forward to seeing more progress on this project! What size are the outlets no that radiator? It was a real pain finding hoses which had 1-1/4" openings for the Supra radiator and 1-1/2" openings on the other end for the 1UZ.
Supra is headed into the exhaust shop tomorrow to finally get the exhaust fabbed so I can get the car on the road. Unfortunately I'll be out of the state during next week and the shop does not have an estimated completion date. I am hoping when I return I'll be able to go pick it up and drive...
Regarding cruisin' roads, it depends on where you go in Michigan. Pretty flat and straight around here. Last year we cruised up to Traverse Bay and Lelau Point and there were some fine roads up there! Lots of curves/elevation changes. Almost reminded me of being back in MO cruisin' around...
Or I could just plan a road trip to your neck of the woods. I'll be looking for excuses to get it out on the road especially as I ramp up for longer trips to stress test the swap.
Heh, I had a similar thought/saying. When I originally purchased the Supra, everything I worked on was loose so the going joke when something occurred or when I went out to work on it was 'what is loose now?' or 'must be something loose'. I feel your pain ;) Can't say that much is left on the...
The 1UZ swap is nearly complete, when you coming to visit for a ride? Should have exhaust (last thing I really need to put it on the road) completed hopefully by Aug. 17 depending on shop's schedule.
Thanks Kristel, means a lot coming from an THE Aussie chick! Y'all are lucky you've got shops like CRS down there. No one like that here but the 1UZ is getting cheaper in the States so maybe a shop or two will fill the void. Car looks much more complete now with everything back together...
This weekend was an eventful one. The engine bay wiring was completed and loomed, the e-fan was tested although the temperature still needs to be independently verified, the Spectre 3" MAF adapter was installed, and the hood was re-attached.
The front interior was also reassembled today...
Bad information on the 1UZ temp. sensor. It was for a gauge after all. It has a slightly different resistance range between 100F to 220F than the Supra sensor not to mention the 1UZ sensor is a 1/8" NPT vs the Supra M16x1.5 sensor.
Pictured below are the stats on the two sensors. I...
Problem is I could have it running on the street by then, but there is still a risk of it developing problems on the way there, during, and on the way back since it won't have had any 'road time' yet to sort any issues out that crop up. Would be hell if it developed any issues on those damn...
I am hopeful the PS leak is just an o-ring at the top where the fill snout exits the pump. The engine sat for a couple of years in someone else's garage before I acquired it and it wouldn't surprise me if there is a dry rotted o-ring in there, although these pumps are known to leak (and take...
Good news is all diagnostic codes except for the sub-O2 sensors have now been solved. Bad news is the PS pump is leaking, the fuel gauge is not reading (although there may not be enough gas in the tank, we’ll have to wait and see when I finally make it to a gas station) and the coolant sensor...
So yeah it ends up I was not getting spark for some reason and since there was no ignition signal, the ECU would not fire the injectors (no injector 'noise' could be heard).
Good news! Today I started pulling off the covers so I could get at the coil plugs to see if they were sparking and it...
Getting a bit further now. Fuel pump is up and running with the ignition key in the ON position. Starter is still working :) I even got the check engine light working and had it output the codes today. Good news is I have not found any gas leaks in any of the new connections yet on the new...
Trust me, I am trying to get it wrapped up so I can drive it over! Come over and help me wrap it up :icon_razz Oh and wife already beat you on the dibs, lol. She has even crawled under the car a couple of times now to help out. It doesn't help that work has me leaving for a week to be in NJ...
Just a quick update to thank Anodyne, CJSupra90, and Jake (all over on Lextreme at http://lextreme.com (CJSupra90 is here on Supramania as well)) for their help so far with the wiring. Although I am still waiting for some further advice from Jake from another question I sent over today, I...
Thanks Quin. A couple of guys have done it now using the stock ECU and either the R154 or the W58 as their transmissions of choice. I just need to get them to reveal their secrets ;)
Another update, this time regarding wiring. The information I have been able to find thus far has always pertained to the post-'89 Supras so some of my wiring does not quite match the information I have and I am looking for further information, especially if anyone has an '87 Toyota Supra TEWD...
Just a quick project update. The engine is now mostly buttoned up. I'm still hunting for a lower radiator hose and cooling fan. The A/C system was removed and the heater core lines were bridged since the car isn't run during the salt, err....winter season here in Michigan. Working on wiring...
