Thanks for the props :) What would you drop a carb'd 1UZ or 2UZ into? Would you go dual or quad carbs? I'm being indecisive right now if I want to go forced induction still or play around with the ITB setup. Those eight velocity stacks poking up in the middle not create a great look for the...
With the Michigan winter quickly approaching (sleet can down this evening), the car will soon be garaged and the next stage of the project started during its long hibernation. After driving it as my daily driver since I put it on the road back in mid-August I have a new found respect for the 1UZ...
I had read this before but thought there was a catch to it. I think this was being accomplished with methanol injection and/or higher octane fuel if I recall correctly? Would be nice though if the engine could take that pressure without using those tricks. I already have the A/C removed so it...
Had a blast last night. Visited DrJonez to pick up some suspension parts. Let him inspect the car and take us for a drive. It was great experiencing what the passenger experiences when a competent driver is putting the car through its paces.
These headers are looking very nice. You have me torn between going the turbo route or sticking with either a SC setup or all motor setup just so I can get a set of these. Will you be making them for the rest of us that have gone the 1UZ route? Any idea on price yet? I need to figure out if...
Agreed :) Now, if I could find another cheap 1UZ to put on the stand and slowly build it up, well....the possibilities are only limited by the available budget. Just need to wrap up a few other items first like suspension.
If I were to go that far it would require the engine to be torn down and built for this type of setup. I think it would be a waste to build a TT 1UZ and only be able to apply 6psi (stock CR is 10:1) don't you? This is also a potential plumbing nightmare inside the MkIII engine bay.
Sounds even better in person. I think the dynamic range of the camera's microphone is a bit narrow but thanks for the compliment :)
I'm using the stock SC400 tubular exhaust manifolds dumping to 2.5" exhaust piping which merges into a 3" Magnaflow y-pipe just below the carrier bearing...
Trying to be nice to the new clutch and old transmission. It'll be a pain to drop it for repairs... Also think my carrier bearing is on its way out. A single aluminum ds is on the list, among other items, to be purchased.
Yup, as I move forward I keep wondering if I should try out an ITB setup or go forced induction. Have to get a large amount of suspension work completed first before making the final decision.
Would love to put one in an Mk2....or even an MkIV for that matter, yes I'm addicted now that I finished one. Would also love to do a lighter platform such as the FD RX-7.

Hoping to get some videos outside of the car as well.
I finally had some time today to take a short video of the new exhaust. Unfortunately, either due to the garage opening behind the camera or the camera's microphone itself, the tone is much lower than it is in real life but it gives a general idea of how the car sounds now...
Fixed the lighting issue! Drove it around town for a few minutes to run a couple of errands, what a blast. Just need to put the interior back together now and put the ECU back in the glove box so it isn't just hanging there in the passenger side. Took everything out while troubleshooting and...
I have good news and I have bad news. The Supra is back from the exhaust shop, sounds amazing and the combination of the R154 and 3.9 rear seem to match the engine pretty well. I won't know until I really get to drive the car for a bit longer. Just driving the car from the shop to home was...
Thanks guys. The real measure of success now will be to drive it for a bit and hope things don't fall apart or....break. Have to take it easy for a bit too to bed in the new clutch and let the oil soak into all the bits and pieces of the internals since it sat dry for a few years.
Added...
Supra has been trailered over to the exhaust shop. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the shop will have it done next weekend once I'm back from IL and I'll pick it up on Saturday. For now here are a couple of pictures of the car all buttoned up and on the trailer as well as a short video of it...
I ended up finding solutions. In fact my lower uses a section of stainless steel process pipe, 1-1/2" diameter with two 90 degree radiator hoses. If you want the numbers for the hoses I'll send them over. The top hose used a Goodyear flexible radiator hose (rubber, not the metal type), again...
