I've done this... we didn't use an international airport, so not much security to worry about. One of the local forums got together with the local police and we rented a strip at the airport. The police brought out one of their speed signs - you know, the little trailer jobbies that tell you...
I've got a lot of these.
Older guy working at a gas station offered me $50 to take him out for a spin, after getting a look under the hood. I took him for a spin... and didn't take his $50. I took the wrenches from my tire shop on a spin too... made for a huge hit - big smiles and big eyes...
I'm going to hazard a guess that your fan isn't up to it. Normally I'd tell someone to remount the shroud and clutch fan, see if the problem goes away. If it does, you've found the problem.
I haven't seen many e-fans that are up to the task. The ones that I have seen aren't cheap.
I also tend to wire the relays so that when something fails - the signal to turn on, for instance - the fans come on by default. I don't like the idea of a system where a fault leaves you without a fan.
I'm not going to be too hard on the guy... remember, we're talking virtually a stock car vs a car running a standalone ECU, launch control, slicks, and double the ponies.
Yes they could... you have to pull the water pump to check 'em, though.
Do you still have the original fan / shroud setup? Has this just started recently, or might it be related to the e-fan installation?
Thanks folks! It's a crapload of fun to drive, too - well, as long as you aren't stuck in traffic in 40+ degree weather with no AC. Gotta get on putting AC back in it, too. Otherwise I'm never going back to Vegas! :D
Depends on a lot of other factors - mostly the ones that affect airflow at speed, with a bit of ambient temps mixed in. Also, what are you using to measure temperature? If you're using the stock gauge, it's pretty useless.
All I've seen is the '90... (http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=BE&P=15) although, why would they change it? Something to do with the airbag system?
Well, you're on the right track.
Did you cut off the jiggle valve on the thermostat? Did you test it before you put it in? Is there a crapload of dirt and leaves between the A/C condenser and the radiator? Is the fan clutch in good shape? Does it have a fan shroud and undertray?
Not yet... been taking too much time off for vacations, camping, and car shows this summer! I've still got a fair bit of things to do on this car.
Thanks! Me too, it looks much better on a Supra than it does on a Matrix, IMO. :D
