Those EGR blockoff plates are bogus. The only true advantage of removing the EGR system is to alleviate the heat from around the back of the number 6 cylinder, by putting the plate on the head side you're trapping in the heat. The correct way to do the mod is to remove the head, permanently...

FYI, You can also duct tape a shop vac hose to it, turn it on, light a cigar and blow smoke on all the connections.
