The stock cat is 11 1/4" long from outside flange to outside flange. I figure a 12" cat would do it, but I haven't gotten back under the car to see if the resonator has enough room for that kind of shift. As for the universal cats, I want to stay with a direct fit cat because I may...
Well, the clunking sound emanates from the resonator on the OEM exhaust I replaced, so it’s more of a curiosity point than anything else.
As for the downpipe, I’m thinking about it. I don’t want to shanghai the thread, and will be happy to start a separate thread if appropriate, but in...
A couple of weeks ago I installed a 3” Tanabe Medallion Touring catback on the otherwise stock exhaust of my ’89 7M-GTE. It’s a straight-forward bolt-on installation, so I’m pretty sure I didn’t screw it up, but I’ve got a problem with the fitment.
The big 90-degree bend between the...
Well, the culprit certainly sounds heavy enough to be a muffler bearing, but I checked mine when I installed the catback and they're both still in place and look like they have at least another 50-75,000 miles left in them.:biglaugh:
It'd be nice to know what's clunking around in there but I...

Secondly, let me stress that I’m not trying to talk you out of, or into, anything. Everyone has their own style and they are free to express it to...

Clue me in. Why would you want a faux suede/Ultrasuede steering wheel? I had an Ultrasuede jacket 25 years ago, and while the chicks dug it, after it got the slightest amount of wear on the elbows, cuffs, and lapels, it looked like shit. I mean, if you're going to drive the car...
Has anyone else ever cut open their resonator or can anyone say with reasonable certainty what would be clunking around inside it? I have difficulty believing it would be some rusted off internal part, given the overall condition of the components.

I guess it depends on what kind of "show" you plan on putting on.
Option 1: The subtle show of elegance of non-contrasting stitching and matching door inserts--as in the original Supra styling;
(This was done by Redline, BTW)
or
Option 2: The court jester freak...
It was very interesting! I don't know what the dwindling number of stock muffler users is, but you can scratch one more--I just installed a Tanabe Medallion Touring catback--but I'm keeping my OEM exhaust in case I want to go back. As you can see, it's in excellent shape for being 29 years old...

While I’m with you shoulder-to-shoulder on the Burgundy interior and I can’t argue with your assessment of the rubber components, Piratetip, I will point out that according to the records, this car spent its life just down the road from you in Chicagoland. That fact substantiates the theory...
Rubber garage door seals were nearly the only option in the years when the OEM lip started to get rare and virtually no after-market manufacturers were making anything close to original that actually fit.
I know they are a certainly still an option when you've gotta have a lip right now, but...
