There not the same starter, their different size. I've bot both starters and compared them. Plus there wouldn't be a 110 dollar price jump just because one has threaded holes. The 1992 starter is half the weight of a 1988 starter, I've held both at the same time.

There was two different starter for the 7mgte. A 1988 supra has a big, cheap starter. It will fit a 1jz, but theirs not much room to fit and you have to use longer bolts with nuts. A 1992 supra has a small, cash money starter. It will fit with stock bolts. I put a 1988 starter on my 1jz...
