More good avialable stroker kits. 3.3-3.4 and you'd have one sick motor. Not that I'm going 7M, but I loved my 7M and the thought of even more torque just makes me wonder why we dont see any... besides the flatlander one but I heard bad things. Somebody should really step up on this. I think you'd see a hell of alot less people ditching the motor with an option like that..

i think also its got a very cheap ownership stigma sorrounding it (in the states anyway) in australia it is getting that way though which is a shame. when i purchased my mkiii i never saw one on the road and i swear 2 weeks later i'd start seeing them more and more.

Well in the 2.5 Liter 1JZ vs the 3.0 Liter 7MGTE debate it seems to be a big deal in the arguement. I'd have to say yes. There is no replacement for displacement.

7mgte has 3 flaws, all easy fixes:

1.) Head gasket

2.) Oil pressure & delivery

3.) Shim over bucket


1.) Fix with arp and MHG.

2.) Install new oil pump, and replace pressure relief spring with one out of a SBC rated at 4-5lbs heavier. Always check the oil. When starting the car, do not let your foot off the clutch untill you have oil pressure.

3.) Install shim under buckets from another toyota engine.

I think what Jon is saying is don't drive the car until you have oil pressure, ie don't jump in & haul ass right away.

A.)You want the oil to warm up B.) You dont' want to put axial load the thrust washer/bearing that is on the crank untill it has oil pressure.

because it's a pressure based system. either throw it out or go to a temperature based system....

Thank you. Dr.J, do you run these? Have you heard of flipping shims while running stock cams. If I upgrade my cams then I'll consider these.

nope, i run a stock valvetrain.

nope, never heard of spitting shims on stock cams. that only happens @ higher lift/duration....or crazy high RPM....

also the oil pickup should be lowered, stock it is way too high, the main cause for rodknock. i haven't fixed mine yet, so i just run a quart extra oil always.
